Prada F/W 2011.2012 Paris

Image source: Style.com, Prada.com, Dazed and Confused September 2011 Leave it to Miuccia Prada to give us something so completely opposite of what she gave us for S/S 2011 and so completely opposite of what she gave us for this latest collection. "I wanted to make sexy materials look different," Miuccia explained on the collection. "I always have this obsession about materials, like sequins, and fur and python, and with how women feel about the materials clothes are made from. And, this time, I wanted to turn things around, to have not girls dressing like a lady, but women dressing like something more innocent." The models, indeed, looked like innocent dolls, diminished in the proportions of the jackets and buttons, but then having this strictness, holding the bags like guns and wearing aviator accessories. There was a strong scent of Modernism particularly in the kilt fronted tunics with the Mondrian-esque graphic, which on first impressions I felt might have been the strongest section. Despite being able to retro reference it, the collection did read fairly strangely futuristic throughout. I think this collection was beautiful. I also love the idea behind it, its somewhat so Prada for me. How the snake print evolved into transparent plastic snake scales, the boots that were designed to appear like shoes worn with socks, the scull-caps in leather and fur, and the beautiful super-lightweight blouse-dresses. While its all beautifully classic, it keeps a perfect balance of the twisted weirdness that Miuccia Prada is so well-known of. If Anna Wintour’s recent public appearance in one of the Prada banana print skirts proved anything, it’s that even conservative women can pull off Pradas funky edge.
