Blog Highlights 2014

How has your year been going? Well, it’s pretty much over by now, so I hope you’ve been able to make some great memories in 2014! I enjoyed blogging on this blog for the fifth year already, so I thought I’d create a highlight post of 2014. I picked 6 of my personal favourite posts, but I also took visitor statistics into account to determine which posts were most liked!

1. South Africa: Boulders Beach Penguins

My number one travel highlight during the summer of 2014 was definitely the Boulders Beach African Penguin Colony. Boulders Beach is part of the Table Mountain National Park and situated close to Cape Town. The colony is part of the only breeding species of penguins on the continent of Africa.

2. Travel Collage: 5 Tips

Sometimes I like to get more creative with my travel photos. Making collages is a great way to make something that includes multiple photos from different parts of the world. I had fun creating two new travel collages and shared some helpful tips (hopefully) to create interesting compositions.

3. Cherry Blossom Season

Spring season started early this year! I visited the Kersenbloesempark (Cherry Blossom Park) in the Amsterdamse Bos to admire the 400 beautiful sakura trees that were planted in celebration of 400 years of cultural ties between Japan and the Netherlands back in 2000.

4. Waterland

Waterland is a peatland region in North-Holland, near Amsterdam. The subsoil of Waterland consists of various layers of peat and clay, deposited by the sea and floods from the former Zuiderzee. The water level is almost equal to the land itself, which leads to beautiful views and interesting bicycle rides. I explored the area last February.

5. The Moon Jellyfish

Even though dogs will probably always be my favourite type of animal, I genuinly think jellyfish are the most elegant and beautiful species on this planet. I took many photos of the Moon Jellyfish (Aurelia Aurita) that floated in the aquarium at Blijdorp Zoo (Rotterdam).

6. Paris: La Fête Des Tuileries

During summer, there’s a funfair at the Tuileries Garden (Jardin des Tuileries) in Paris. It usually takes place from the end of June until somewhere in the last week of August. When I was in Paris with my family we stopped at the fair and had fun looking at the screeching and shrieking people in the upside-down-swingy-thingy (very technical term, bien sûr).

See you in 2015!
