The Ombre Look - Highlighting Hair From Home!

Ombre Hair: Ombre hair refers to hair color fading from dark to light, or vice versa. Instead of color starting from the roots, it gradually becomes lighter, or darker towards the ends. The word "ombre" in French means shadow or shade.
My daughter Kailey had her hair highlighted blonde a few years ago, and as painful as it was, we decided to let her roots grow out, and guess what happened? Her look became a trend and she was so happy to have "overgrown" roots! ;)
I'll cut to the chase. We just cut 4 inches from her hair, so off went a good portion of her blonde ends. Kailey "begged" me to highlight her ends. I honestly didn't want to do it, but she talked me into it. SO....off to Sally Beauty Supply we went!
Kailey has dark hair, so I went with a 40 volume peroxide and Kaleidscope Bleach. Our hair is stubborn and takes FOREVER to process because it's so dark, so 40 volume is the way to go! It truly brings dark hair up to a light color FAST!
I mixed two scoops of Kaleidscope Bleach with 1 ounce (30 mL) of 40 Volume Creme.
We always use clips to section the hair.
I bought toner, just in case the color turned out too brassy! Although, we decided not to use it, after all!
The mixture should be similar to whipped cream. We then sectioned the hair.
I forgot to buy the foil strips, so I used regular foil and cut them into pieces.
Foiling does not have to be pretty, the way they do it in the salon! I just painted the mixture on and slapped some foil over it. We joked that she had foil dreadlocks...lol!
We let the bleach sit on the hair for 45 minutes and I broke out the blow dryer and applied heat so that her hair would process faster!
We removed the foil and went to rinse, shampoo, and deep condition her hair!
When I first saw her color, I immediately thought I should have used the toner to remove any brassiness, but decided to blow dry her hair to see the true color first.
Combed out and ready to blow-dry!
This was the look she was going for.....
Kailey is happy with the end result! I went on a field trip this week with her science class and all her friends were complimenting her hair, so I guess I did a decent job! ;) I was so nervous, but it turned out alright! I did my second oldest daughters hair as well. We highlighted the ends, the only difference is we "framed" her face by highlighting the sides. Now when she pulls her hair back, you can see it's blonde.
She is loving the change, too!
It's fun to change hair styles and add a bit of color. :)
Kourtney also grew her roots out and we just chopped her hair, so she also wanted some color back in her hair.
I even highlighted my bangs and we painted our nails....it was a fun night of beauty!
Thanks for visiting! XO ~Liz P.S. I did two posts today, so please check out the post beneath this one if you didn't already see it, thanks! :)
