How to Ripen an Avocado


The other day I bought home two very hard, very unripe avocados. I put one in the pantry, and one in a fruit bowl with ripe bananas on the bench top. I completely expected the one near the bananas with the sunlight to ripen first – as you can see below that wasn’t the case! The image below has two different avocados side by side. It took about 5 days for the avocado to be ready. I know that sounds like a long time, but these avocados were rock hard! I certainly didn’t expect the one in the fruit bowl to still be rock hard and just as green by the time the avocado from the pantry was ready to eat! Do you know how to peel an avocado? You peel it. Providing the avocado is ripe, the skin will just peel off easily. It’s easier to peel if you cut the avocado into wedges. (Below I made a little stop motion so you can see how easily the avocado skin should peel off – and I did it with one hand while taking photos with the other!) This is today’s breakfast.
