dream house: the bathroom.

light locations.

the thing about buying your dream house is that it can be a little weird taking over someone else’s bathroom. it’s such a personal space and when you view houses online, or visit open houses in person, bathrooms can go from being completely wow, to sometimes something much less than ideal. in the back of my mind, i’m thinking “industrial strength cleaner, exists, right?” and trying to keep an open mind. like anything, bathroom styling is so subjective, and while i lean towards something simple, other people prefer their vanities to look more like a hollywood makeup trailer, complete with big huge lightbulb fixtures. me — i prefer an all white bath if i can get it, but when you’re buying a house you quickly realize bathrooms come in all colors, shapes and sizes and you might have to live with that for a while, unless you can renovate right away.

then there’s those crazy colored tiled bathrooms from the 19230-50’s that can go either way. i think you either embrace the unusual color choices, or do what you can to minimize them. my old bathroom had powder pink and baby blue tile which was just a wee bit precious for me, where jordan’s beautiful bathroom has pink and black tile, which she’s made look great! anna, at door sixteen, is the bathroom makeover queen and has done quite a few renovations, so she’s a great resource for bathroom inspiration on a budget, but with great style. in fact, all of anna’s home renovations give me hope!
