One of my goals this year is to make smarter purchases for my wardrobe. To buy fewer trendy pieces that end up in the Good Will bin after a few wears, and to invest in classic pieces that can be worn year after year. At the end of last year I did a major overhaul of my closet and really focused on organizing and simplifying. I realized that I was holding on to a lot of things that I just didn't love, and I was lacking some essential pieces. And what really dawned on me is how much money I've waisted on things that I only wore once or twice. My closet was overflowing with clothes from seasons past, and I started to feel like I had nothing to wear. I decided to make a list of essential pieces that were missing from my wardrobe (I'm a total list-dork). One key piece that I was missing was a timeless black leather jacket. I've wanted a leather jacket for years, but could never rationalize the splurge. Then it hit me. With a little prioritizing and less impulse purchasing (my resolution for this year), I could start making some investment purchases for my wardrobe. I am starting to look at purchasing clothing in a different light. I think what's most important is versatility and timelessness. How many times can I wear something and how quickly will it go out of style? My goal is to find pieces that I feel confident and comfortable in and that I know I will get the most use out of.
