#BlogBabes: Carrie from WishWishWish!

WishWishWish!

In the final of my #BlogBabes interviews to celebrate Shiny Thoughts turning 6, it’s time to turn to my best friend – the one and only Miss Wish!

I invited her down to the gorgeous Wallace Collection, a free entry museum of some of the finest showcase of 18th century painting, furniture, porcelain works and much more (check out the jaw-dropping armour rooms.) Of course, we were mainly there to try the Peyton and Byrne afternoon tea in the pink cafe under the pretty glass ceiling. We may as well have been on holiday! Without further ado…

Hello! So please introduce yourself!

CARRIE: I’m Carrie and I blog stuff, I’ve basically just been on the internet for a long time.

How long have you been blogging for?

CARRIE: It’s just turned 7 years! I bought a big balloon and said a big thank you.

LUCY: Oh yeah because yours is just before mine! I’m very proud of my friends because we’ve all been blogging for such a long time!

How did we meet/your earliest memory of me – do you remember the specific situation?

CARRIE: Yes! Well we met at uni, I remember seeing you ’round.

LUCY: Seein’ you ‘raahhnd’

CARRIE: Hey, I am nowt doin ah ‘stralian ahccent’. My earliest thoughts of you was that you had lots of colours in your hair. Like the McFly song!

LUCY: Oh! I had colourful hair then? I forgot!

CARRIE: Yeah I think there was some green and blue going on there. You came across as really enthusiastic and like the teachers pet that I would learn to know that you are! We first met at some sort of social event in our class a few weeks into the year and I remember sitting at the back of the classroom. You came over and started asking me loads of questions about blogging and things, which is something I now know to be typical of you because you like to know stuff!

LUCY: Hahaha! And you must have LOVED it because you love talking about yourself!

CARRIE: Hhaaha! I do remember you saying that you saw me and wanted to be friends with me.

LUCY: Yeah I thought ‘she’s hot shit, she’s needs to be ma mate.’ I remember that you were that girl who went to fashion week in the first week of uni and put it on our class blog and then in the first class project, you were in another group but when you presented you went totally above and beyond, creating all these lovely graphics and flyers. I was super impressed and I thought ‘oh, she’s really good, I need to be at that level.’ I also remember you looked really different, you were wearing navy sailor style shorts and a red stripe top with your halo plaits so we needed to be friends.
I like to think that it was mutual admiration haha.

What did you think of me and my blog on first impression?

LUCY: Your blog didn’t have much of you in it but I know that it was quite artistic. There were exhibitions and you were really making the most of being in London and documenting it. Quite different to what you do today.

LUCY: And at that time you had your typewriter illustration layout.

CARRIE: Yes! My very first layout! I remember I asked you to take photos for a blog post I did with Modcloth, that was the very first time you took my photos. As a thank you I gave half of the outfit to you and you wore it all the time and that’s how we became friends!

LUCY: Haha yeah I liked that cape! I remember you were one who get me to start posting photos of myself too.

Lets talk about when we first started building our friendship – do you remember any particular situations?

CARRIE: I remember around the same time we got that bus together to central for a project. I bought chips and cheese and you got a sandwich. Very typical of our relationship. And we ended up chatting loads!

LUCY: Then once we knew each other a little better at uni I came to your house for the first time. You modelled some weird feather cuff thing I made

CARRIE: Yeah I and I filmed you! You had to stand there staring at the camera for ages in black and white like Andy Warhol’s films.

LUCY: That was the first time I met your boyfriend Miguel and saw into your world.

CARRIE: I have a memory of the first time I came and stayed at your uni house. Was that the time my shoe broke? I just had a flashback of us being around Wood Green and you had no shoes on because you let me wear yours! Actually you’ve done that on several occasions!

LUCY: OMG yeah! We were in Earls Court and you tripped in front of Hilary Alexander and off came the bottom of your HasBeens.

CARRIE: She didn’t offer any advice for broken shoes.

LUCY: Yeah I contemplated going over and asking her for help, haha!

CARRIE: Of course we shot those photos in the park together – that was the first time I mentioned you on wishwishwish!

LUCY: Aaah! They’re still my absolute favourite photos! Someone even illustrated it too!

What has been the biggest thing to happen in our friendship?

CARRIE: Well we lived together – that’s quite big.

LUCY: I was so excited and thought ‘yes yes yes’ this is going to be brilliant. I didn’t have anywhere to live in my second year and you and Miguel had a spare room.

CARRIE: Yeah, we were both excited! It was pretty easy, job done.

What’s the weirdest story/thing about me?

CARRIE: They come up far too regularly haha! Thing is we’re so different in so many ways. Things I find weird about you, you think is totally normal. Only in ways like you eat food weird.

LUCY: And you eat food weird.

CARRIE: Yeah I do! haha! I don’t know exactly but you’re definitely weird.

LUCY: Yeah.

If our blogs went on a date together, where would they go?

CARRIE: Well they’d go for afternoon tea of course! I probably went for my first afternoon tea with you at Bake-a-boo and then we went for lots of others together for Wish Magazine and things.

LUCY: Yeah we’d go to somewhere cute and kitsch like Drink Shop Do. ShinyThoughts is colourful and WishWishWish is pretty so it would be quite sixties and poppy. I can’t really think of an afternoon tea location that would really define us though.

CARRIE: That’s it, we need to start our own afternoon tea salon!

What’s one thing you know about me that no-one else knows?

CARRIE: That time you accidentally fell into the Serpentine river? You always like to go the extra mile for a photo

LUCY: HAHA! OMG you and half the Londoners watching by the lake knows that story! We were shooting for Ros’s photo project and I thought peering into the lake would make a good snap. Turns out, the edge is pretty slippery…

How have we helped each others blogs/blogging life?

CARRIE: A hell of a lot. Just in practical terms of getting stuff done over the years and also for introducing each other to new people. I had a bit of a blogging head start so I was able to bring you along to events and allowed you to meet new people.

LUCY: You were instrumental. There was no way I would have gotten so quickly into working with the right people without your help. And then I’ve helped you on a practical level.

CARRIE: But I’ve always really appreciated the effort you put in when we work together. You’re vocal when we’re shooting and you tell me what you like or if it’s not quite working. You get really into it and don’t just press a button. There’s a nice little compliment for you there!

LUCY: Nice complo.

TOGETHER: hahaha complo! Bloody hell.

What’s your best blogging asset that would help the other person in a blogging situation?

CARRIE: Your eye and enthusiasm.

LUCY: A critical and honest eye. I feel like I could come to you with any question and that I would value your opinion more than anyone else.

CARRIE: Yeah there’s friends, and then it goes a bit deeper than that. There’s that level of honesty and trust.

If we had one blog together, what would it be about/specialise in?

CARRIE: I think it would be more creative than each of our blogs are now. There might be products to sell, workshops and we’d do full-on shoots. I don’t think it would be about us, we’d review places and do things. Creating guides and be really visual.

LUCY: I think it would be quite DIY and step by step guides on a bigger scale because there are two of us.

CARRIE: Yeah, we’re similar in work ethic but we have different interests so if we came together it would be like… like… a super hub!

LUCY: Super. Hub. A shiny-wish or a wish-thought some might say.

CARRIE: That’s lame I don’t want that. Someone might steal our name, we best not say any more.

LUCY: Shhh. haha

Any catch phrases?

CARRIE: We do say the same things at the same time which is quite weird. It happens all the time.

LUCY: There’s that one thing that you always say: ‘just as well.’ which is well Somerset for ‘may as well.’

CARRIE: You call me Bean and I used to call you Brain.

Quick fire questions:

Who can cook better?

CARRIE: Well I’ve never really tried your cooking!

LUCY: Whaaat?!

CARRIE: We should do a Come Dine With Me! We could film that.

What would you steal from my wardrobe?

CARRIE: I used to steal your straw boater all the time. It was basically mine.

LUCY: Usually I would just walk around your bedroom, say I liked something and then usually be able to walk out with it. You’ve worn that black tasseled-arm playsuit from Topshop in Weston-Super-Mare you’ve worn at emo gigs! I’d steal your Lazy Oaf cat co-ord.

What’s your shiny rule to live by?

CARRIE: Just don’t worry about it.

What would you steal from my skillset/appearance/personality?

…. (time ticks by)

LUCY: The look of concentration on your face Carrie.

CARRIE: haha! I’d have your ‘get shit done’ attitude and your slender frame.

LUCY: Pff! I’d have your teeth, post-treatment haha. I’d also love to have your blogging efficiency. You just type it out and boom it’s done. From your personality, your chilled-out attitude. I’m definitely more horizontal since I’ve known you!

CARRIE: Yeah I’m such a hippy!

LUCY: Thanks Bean, hope you enjoyed your scones and little sarnies here at The Wallace Collection!

CARRIE: Sure did, thanks for inviting me!
