isabel marant madness

This weekend counts as one of the few where moppet stature actually paid off. After multiple unsuccessful attempts competing with H&M’s uncooperative, confounding and overburdened e-comm site, where desired pieces weren’t sold out until checkout, I took a gamble and headed to a nearby brick and mortar.

As luck would have it, the children’s section of the Isabel Marant pour H&M collection had the exact coat that topped my list. The catch was that it was only available one to two sizes smaller than I had anticipated would fit (you can go ahead and har har in the details below). It’s less of the oversized effect that is Marant’s signature in outerwear, but I’m fairly pleased with it. I’m also incredibly pleased that it clocked in at less than half the price of the adult version.

Isabel Marant pour H&M herringbone girl’s wool coat (size 10-11Y) & men’s wool scarf, vintage Ferragamo purse, Pamela Love cross ring, various Catbird first knuckle rings

So, there we have it. I do believe a jacket designed for an 11 year-old girl has now set my upsetting record for children’s clothing. In general, my experience checking out the merch is that quality is distinctly superior to past fast-fashion designer collaborations I’ve succumbed to. The scarf pictured above and the sweaters touted 100% wool on their tags, and the coat included wool, mohair and alpaca, for instance. If you missed out in the chaos of this much-hyped collab, stay tuned: H&M employees (as well multiple blogposts and articles I’ve read) expect a slew of returns in the coming weeks as sizing in this collection ran all over the map.

Curious to hear from others — did you try your luck and succeed with anything from this collection?
