Let it Be and Promises for 2014

Ah, New Years Resolutions. Since I’m writing mine nearly 2 weeks into January, I figure that means I either spent a lot of time working on them (I didn’t) or that I’m extremely indecisive (I am).

So I decided to keep it simple, an easy to remember phrase:

I spend too much of my time worrying about things I cannot change or control. The other day, I decided to slice a lemon on our kitchen counter without a cutting board and obviously (stupidly) made a few slice marks into our linoleum counter. I spent the next 3 hours lamenting my stupidity and avoiding the kitchen to try to get my mind off of it, which was mostly unsuccessful. I remember telling Rob repeatedly that I couldn’t get over the fact I made a mistake and I felt the need to punish myself for it by relishing in my own guilt. I just clearly have a control issue.

So my mantra for the year is “Let it Be” so I can remind myself to not only to relinquish some of my control over impossible things but also to forgive myself of the guilt I feel when things don’t go as planned. Hopefully this phrase serves me well in wedding planning too…

In addition to just Let it Be, I have a few promises I made to myself for 2014

…to try and live a healthier lifestyle but not punish myself when I indulge a little.

…to spend less time on my phone when I’m with the people I love.

…to spend less time talking negative about celebrities because frankly, I really DON’T know them.

…to invest in some adult clothing this year because let’s face it, I’m 25 and forever 21 just doesn’t cut it anymore.

…to spend more time laughing.

…to thank people more often.

And to seal the deal, I’ve pinky promised with myself, which means its basically a law.

Any phrases you want to live by in 2014 or promises you’d like to make yourself?
