SUCCESS STORY

Reader Julie,

I have always enjoyed reading your Reader Roundup posts and never in a million years ever thought that I would be sending you an email with the hopes of possibly being included in one of your upcoming posts, but after thinking about it for a couple of weeks I finally got up the courage to send you my story.

Long story short is that after two children I let my weight get incredibly out of control and unfortunately it took the unexpected death of a friend to finally find the motivation to get my butt in gear and lose the weight. As of March 2012, I have officially lost over 100 lbs!

I was able to lose the weight by joining Weight Watchers and exercising religiously. When my elliptical broke right before Christmas last year, I started running and 6 weeks later I ran my first half marathon – Surf City in Huntington Beach.

Since then I have completed the Beach Cities Challenge (the OC and LB halves) and will be running my 4th half marathon this weekend in Vegas. I’m registered to run my first full marathon this February – again, Surf City in Huntington Beach.

Recently I won one of the 50 first place prizes in the Weight Watchers 50 Years of Success Contest and because of that, my local newspaper ran an article about my weight loss story.

Congrats Julie on your success and setting a healthier example for your children! You can follow along with Julie’s blog.

FUNDRAISING

Beth,

My sister and I (she’s never run before!!!) are running the Arizona Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon for Team Diabetes on January 19, 2014, in my brother’s honor. He recently passed away from complications associated with his childhood diabetes.

Our goal is to raise $500, so please consider joining us to help make others smile and support our run. All proceeds go directly to the American Diabetes Association… it’s just a way for me to do something positive for him.

If you’d like to donate, Beth’s fundraising page is found here.
