Electrodessication Skin Tag Removal

ELECTRODESSICATION SKIN TAG REMOVAL TREATMENT INFORMATION

Electrodessication is a fast and simple medically directed procedure that uses electric current to remove skin tags, some brown spots and other skin concerns. This treatment is administered using a needle-shaped electrode to heat the skin in pinpoint precise areas and usually involves little-to-no downtime.

TREATMENT BENEFITS:

  • Safe and effective.
  • Removes excess skin growths.
  • Quick healing due to cauterizing tip.
  • Little-to-no-downtime, lunch time treatment.

THE PROCEDURE:
Electrodesiccation involves removing tissue (excess skin) with high frequency electric current delivered via a needle-shaped electrode. An electrosurgical device may then be used to stop bleeding and cauterize a zone of normal tissue after a mole removal; this procedure can remove any cancerous tissue and minimizes the chance of recurrence. The treatment device is a pen-like instrument with a metal probe at the tip. The metal portion is placed close to the skin and electricity then flows to heat the targeted area of skin.

PRE-TREATMENT:
There is no preparation necessary for our patients prior to the procedure. During the procedure the area to be treated is cleansed. Anesthesia is administered if required, Dr. Kellett will determine the best method to ensure a safe and comfortable treatment.

POST-CARE:
Immediately after the procedure, an antibiotic ointment will be applied to the treated area. The wound should not be washed 1-2 days to allow for healing. Thereafter the wound can be cleansed with gentle soap and water. A Band-Aid with antibiotic ointment can be used on a daily basis for 7-10 days until the wound is healed.

Patients will be provided with instructions for at-home care. The wound that results from the Electrodessication treatment is allowed to heal on its own.

RESULTS
DLK’s Electrodessication Treatment for the removal of skin tags, some brown spots and other skin concerns is an effective treatment to safely reduce excess skin. Generally a single treatments is necessary for optimal results although results vary from patient to patient.
