contrast

helsinki in the middle of july and a warm summer evening at ramholmen.
my heart's been heavy lately. the city council in ekenäs (or raasepori as it's called nowadays) is planning to, perhaps, build a supermarket concept in the harbour. next to our beloved kronomagasinet. if the plan gets through, the whole town would change. ekenäs is a tiny place witch lot's of organic farms spread around the countryside, heaps and heaps of houndred-year-old trees, a national park in the archipelago outside our little town, slow food organisation, lot's and lot's of locally produced vegetables like onion and potatoes for example. i love this place. i love how it has stayed tiny through out the years, i love how much trees there are, parks and so on.
the harbour would loose all it's value if they decide to put up a big supermarket there. all the tiny shops would suffer. the harbour contains lot's of houndred year old buildings, included kronomagasinet.
i was attending a debate on the local radio this morning. my fellow debate-comrade had a hard time understanding the reasons why i, and many others, wish that no such thing as a supermarket would be built in the harbour. i tried to explain how much dept we all are against our mother earth, the fact that about a month ago we used up all the earth resources and that we're now using back-up resources, the fact that the consume-culture we're living in at the moment doesn't work.
we've already got 6 stores with food in ekenäs, and i've never seen them packed with costumers. the stores throw away dozens of good quality food everyday. in fact, 1/3 of the worlds produced food goes to waste.
we've made an online-petition against this, so if you're interested (it's in swedish though) and perhaps want to sign your name you can find it here (klick!) we need at least 1000 names, i'd be extremely grateful if atleast any of you, who understands the whole thing, would sign the petition.
the society of today is a scary and horrible place to live in. nothing really works properly. millions of people are starving every day, yet we throw away 1/3 of the world's food. an eight year old girl in jemen recently passed away because she bled to death, because of the damage her 40-year old husdband had caused her lower parts. a man in norway writes a manifest and kills heaps of children on the island of utoya. the government tells us that the modern society is democtaric, when it's actually the total oposite.
fact says that the amount of seeds who's produced for feeding beef cattles could easily feed all of the people who are starving.
people need to start realize that we're not a super-human. we need every single insect on this planet to survive, we live in symbiosis. we live on a planet which we should take care of so that following generations also can enjoy it. the planet earth is in a fragile condition because of what man has done to her. we need a radical change, asap.
what ever happened to the welfare of the planet and all it's inhabitants?
