Day Date

It’s hard for us to take a serious photo.

Justin has a history of acting (think musicals and productions in high school), and when you put a camera in front of his face it turns him into a comedian or something.

A few weeks ago we went on a day date to see Wicked at the DPAC! I saw the show many years ago in NYC when I was there taking my Redken Color Certification Exam. I remember liking it then, but it had been so long I was excited to see it with fresh eyes.

Going to plays or musicals is one of the things we both enjoy doing for a special date.

Wicked, as expected, was awesome. And given that was my first time at the DPAC, I was rather impressed! It’s a great theatre and if you live in the area I’d recommend finding an excuse to get over there.

Afterwards, we had some Christmas returns to do so we stopped by the mall. I bought a shower cap, because who doesn’t do that on a date night, and then we ate at one of my favorite restaurants, Firebirds.

The peppercorn steak (you have to order it light on the peppercorns otherwise your mouth will burn up), loaded baked potato, caesar salad and big daddy chocolate cake are what I order every time we go.

Since becoming parents, I’ve found it’s easy to slip in to “maintenance mode” and pregnancy had me going to bed around 9:00p every night as well. Now, with both boys the evenings are even busier. It was so refreshing to spend the majority of the day with him, without a schedule or timeline, and simply enjoy each other’s company. We talked about our jobs, what it’s going to be like to have another baby, plans for our next home (way down the line), and things we used to talk about when we had a little bit more free space in our minds.

I consider it such a gift to be able to go through life with him. And I never regret time intentionally planned out to spend time together, one on one.

*just a friendly reminder that I’m currently on maternity leave so questions left in the comments may not be answered.
