Hide and Seek is a Dangerous Game ((GIFs))

As most of you have seen by now, I broke foot last Wednesday night. Many of you have asked how I did it, so I’ll tell you all now: I broke my foot playing hide and seek.

You may be asking yourself how on Earth I did that.

Well, it all started, obviously, with a game of hide and seek. It’s a game the Doctor and I play with Toddles all the time because she loves it. One of us will go hide and the other will then walk around with Toddles helping her find us.

It was my turn to hide so I was running into our guest bedroom. I was going to hide between the guest bed and the wall – genius! But as I was running I managed to trip over my own foot or something – I’m good like that – and rolled my ankle. I guess I kept putting my foot down after the ankle rolled because I heard a pop and all the sudden I’m on the ground.

Hubby came running in and looks at my foot and tells me that he’s pretty sure I broke it because something was sticking out – EW! (FYI, it was just a bump and as much as I can figure it was only swelling because it was gone a couple days later.)

We decide to head to the hospital and hubby starts getting Toddles ready while I hop out the front door and start butt-scooting down the stairs. I probably looked like a drunk. Especially with all the tears and butt-scooting. Luckily, there were many people around at the time so nobody missed my spectacle.

Finally we get to the hospital after what was the longest 15-minute ride of my life, and I get wheeled right in. Possibly because I’m a BAMF, but probably because I was blubbering like a baby with a huge bag of ice on my foot. After being checked in they started wheeling me back to get x-rays and I saw the doctor coming with the promised pain meds. I made a joke about how we should stop because he had the good stuff, inadvertently making the x-ray tech feel awful for taking me away from the doctor and probably making them think I have a drug problem.

Anyway, I got my x-rays, got my pain meds, and waited for the doctor. A few minutes later he came in and told me that I had broken my third metatarsal, but thankfully not my ankle, which is much harder to heal. And then waited and waited and waited for an ortho tech to come from another hospital and splint my foot. I finally got home and have been hobbling about ever since on crutches. But I can’t say there hasn’t been a lot of one-footed hopping and butt-scooting still, though…it’s just easier.
