The Best Film I've Ever Seen (in one year)...

For the first time in my life, I have seen all the Oscar Best Picture nominations BEFORE the show goes live.

I know right? I've always wanted to do that and print off the list and ballot online to mark down who I think will win.

So yeah, I can't wait to sit down and watch the show. I didn't watch any of the films with prior knowledge as to what were about. Perhaps in the case of the movie Birdman, that might have been helpful. I still don't get that one.

But let's go down my list in alphabetical order shall we?

Best Picture of the Year - Nominees

AMERICAN SNIPER

I tried to not think like an Oscar watcher and assume that because Clint Eastwood is the director, that this one is going to win. But yeah, I wouldn't be surprised.

I thought it was "good" but when I got to end and found out it was based on a true story, I was like, "Wow".

Still to me "best picture" means the best movie I've ever seen (in one year). None of these were it.

BIRDMAN

Like I said above.

As the kids say today, this movie was "LAME". I watched it to the end like maybe things were going to turn around and something would make this movie incredible.

That never happened. Michael Keaton is up for Best Actor for his role in this film and Edward Norton is up for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. When I saw that I was like, "Really?"

BOYHOOD

This movie was really good. As I was watching, I was on IMDB trying to figure out if the young girl and the older girl playing the same part were sisters because they looked so much alike.

For that matter the young boy looked just like the older boy. Come to find out, it was the same character and the movie had been filmed over a period of ELEVEN years!

After that I was in awe of the whole production. The best movie I've ever seen in a year? No, but it was good. I think this one should win the "Achievement in Film Editing" award. For that it was excellent.

THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL

This movie is an acquired taste. Can you call something boring and entertaining? It had some LOL parts.

If you ever saw the Quentin Tarantino movie, "Four Rooms", this movie will remind you of it. It was quite quirky. I enjoyed it for the minuscule roles actors played. Like the actors may have said, "Yeah put me down for a line." Strangely this movie also reminded me of the animated film "Ratatouille". Because this movie was so light and quirky and different from the rest, I think it could win. But this one is not my vote.

THE IMITATION GAME

This was another movie that I found interesting AFTER I found out that it was also based on a true story. A sad and incredible story. I think I would have enjoyed this movie more if I had read the book first. Oscar worthy? Nah. I tried to find another category for it and I picked "Adapted Screenplay". Also the main actor Benedict Cumberbatch is up for the Best Supporting Actor in a role. I think it's between him and Eddie Redmayne for The Theory of Everything. Overall... good history lesson

SELMA

This is the movie that I think should win. I'm not saying that because I'm black either.

Seriously though, it was excellent, it broke my heart

and had my emotions going in so many different directions. There's no other categories for it except best original song. This was a best picture. It was another story in history that I did not know.

THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING

This is the movie that I think WILL win if the big money

Clint Eastwood film does not. This movie reminded me of A Beautiful Mind which won best picture in 2002. It was very good and again I didn't know it was a true story until I saw what happened to the main character. I didn't particularly "like" who that character became though, there was a part in the movie where I said, "Oh no you did-int!" But yeah, based on the "taste" of prior years Best Picture choices, I think this one is a winner. Though I don't agree because Selma was a better movie.

WHIPLASH

The way this movie ended was like wow!

It's not going to win Best Picture though. I imagine J.K. Simmons will be awarded the Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. I couldn't believe that man, though he could be mean in The Closer, was Chief Pope! Oh the language and yelling made me want to hide under a blanket as if I was the character who was taking the verbal abuse.

Side notes

Jennifer Aniston should have been up for Best Actress in a Leading or Supporting role. You should check her out in the movie Cake.

I am hoping that Big Hero 6 wins Best Animated Feature Film. I loved it. The Boxtrolls - not so much.

Best Original Song? I would love to see Glory from Selma win. But I've gotta say I LOVE Everything is Awesome from The Lego Movie. It makes me jump up and down.

And to my dearest daddy, if you read this whole post, "No, you will not be interested in any of these movies." And I would have to agree with you that Get On Up and The Equalizer were two of the Best Films I've ever seen (in one year).
