Chidoriya Rice Bran Face Wash Review

I recently tried out the Chidoriya Rice Bran Face Wash and, though I had mixed feelings about it, it does have some promising and beneficial features so read on if traditional Japanese beauty interests you!

Chidoriya Rice Bran Face Wash Review

First off, Chidoriya is a natural Japanese beauty brand which utilizes many traditional Japanese ingredients and was started over 50 years ago in 1949 in Kyoto, Japan. Originally, Chidoriya focused on making beauty products and bags for geisha and maiko dancing girls, the trendsetters of that time, and over the years, they have come to establish a reputation for creating natural beauty products with the highest quality ingredients and results. Their rich history among geisha in Japan was definitely what first attracted me to Chidoriya and led me to trying out their rice bran wash.

If you are unfamiliar with what Rice Bran Wash is, it’s an alternative face wash. It comes in powder form and is 100% natural rice bran, rich in essential fatty acids and vitamin E, which you mix with water to form a paste and then massage in circular motions and rinse off with lukewarm water. In the case of Chidoriya, they include small bags with your face wash so you can put the powder in the little bag, add some water and gently buff your face with it.

It’s suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin types, and helps remove all traces of dirt, debris, and gentle exfoliates skin without causing irritation. As far as face washes go, this rice bran wash is super simple. In fact, in Japan, women refer to it as the “common sense” choice for cleansing because it’s been used since before facial soap went mainstream as a means of keeping skin in good condition. The main benefits of using any kind of rice bran rich face wash are that rice bran is known for naturally brightening and softening skin as well as fighting bacteria and improving discoloration.

As far as a cleanser, this face wash is brilliant. It’s extremely gentle, easy to use, cleanses well, and exfoliates skin so gently that you’ll barely even notice it’s exfoliating at all, save for the fact that your skin looks a lot fresher after the fact. The one thing I did not like about this face wash was the smell. It’s not that it smells bad; it just smells exactly like cooked rice. Not that I have anything against the scent of rice, but it just smells odd in a face wash. That being said, this does work incredibly well and is a brilliant no-brainer kind of cleanser that just works without upsetting the skin in any way. I imagine this would work incredibly well for sensitive skin types, especially for exfoliating the skin, and it doesn’t cause redness or anything. It’s very gentle and, for that, I will keep using it, but I think the smell is just something that takes getting used to.
