Bloggers & Bespoke Burgers: Maccas Goes Gourmet

They say couples who play together, stay together right? Well I think the same applies to bloggers. So when the big cheese at McDonalds (it wasn’t actually the big cheese, I just couldn’t resist saying that) invited me to join two fab fashion bloggers for a special lunch at Maccas I jumped at the chance.

Now Mackey-Dees may not sound like your typical fashion blogger’s hang but when I heard that McDonald’s in Auckland’s Balmoral was offering bespoke burgers I knew I had to try one. Firstly, I love a good burger and secondly, in fashion terms bespoke means quality so a custom burger had to be worth a try.

Turns out a bespoke burger is a lot like it’s fashion counterpart – a perfect fit. In fact, you actually get to choose everything that goes on your burger. There are two different buns to choose from (and a bun-less option with your burger served in lettuce), tonnes of tasty fillings and oodles of sauces to top it off. In true bespoke style the whole process is top-shelf all the way. There’s no more jostling at the counter and waiting to be served either. Instead you place your order using a touch screen and wait for your burger to arrive . . . at your table. Yes you read that right. Your meal gets served to you just like in a “real” restaurant.

Of course when our burgers arrived we did what any self-respecting bloggers do – take fifty million pictures before tucking in. Creating my own burger was exciting but seeing it arrive on it’s own little wooden board complete with a cute little flag sticking out the top and an even cuter side of fries was . . . next level.

Balmoral is the one and only McDonald’s in New Zealand to offer this Create Your Taste type burger and if it’s a success (that means if you all love it as much as I do) then we’ll start seeing more of these gourmet burgers popping up in McDonald’s restaurants around the country fairly soon.

In case you’re wondering what I had on my burger; I started with a brioche bun (pretty flash huh?) added a 100 percent beef patty and finished it off with tomato, lettuce, guacamole, parmesan cheese and a splash of caramelised onion relish. If I had to describe it in a single word it would be divine.

All I can say is I can’t wait until my local Maccas starts offering up this cool new service.
