Meet Marsala – 10 Simple Ways To Wear Pantone’s Colour Of The Year

In case you haven’t heard the colour experts over at Pantone have named the beautiful earthy brownish-red of Marsala as the Colour of the Year for 2015.

“This earthy red has wine and a very warm brown underneath, which gives the feeling of groundedness, strength, and confidence,” says Leatrice Eisman, Executive Director of Pantone Colour Institute. Eisman says we’ve seen glimpses of marsala in the late ‘60s into the ‘70s and a touch in the ‘80s, but it’s a very modern hue that totally suits the times.

We’re loving Marsala because it’s a deep reddish-brown colour that looks great on all skin tones and easily translates into beautiful, wearable makeup looks.

Your lips are the most obvious place to sport the colour but it also looks great worn as a nail polish, eyeliner, blush and if you’re very brave an eyeshadow.

Top tips for wearing marsala

When wearing a deep marsala-inspired lip colour apply your blush last. This way you won’t add too much colour.

Always define the shape of your mouth with a lip pencil for a picture-perfect pout.

As with any bright or bold makeup, it’s always best to keep your complexion quite natural as far as foundation is concerned. A light blush or bronzer, groomed brows, and a coat of mascara is all you will need.

Play up the look for evening and tone it down for day by ensuring you build colour gradually.
