Some of you might have had an imaginary friend while growing up, an invisible companion that you confided in and turned to for comfort and entertainment.

Taking inspiration from this phenomenon is ‘
So You’ve Grown Attached’, a poignant, heartbreaking short film by Katy Tsang about a young girl and her imaginary friend.

A quirky take on the classic coming-of-age film, the 15-minute short centers on the close friendship between bookish 11-year-old Izzy and her imaginary friend Ex.

However, their days of reading comics and play fighting on the lawn are numbered, as Ex has to face the reality that he will eventually have to retire when Izzy outgrows him.

Shining with moments of humor, honesty and emotion, the short illustrates the bittersweetness of growing up.

The film was a National Finalist for the Student Academy Awards in 2014, and won Best Narrative Short at the 2014 San Francisco International Film Festival.
