Three Types of Decorators: Which One Are You?

Many people see the word decorating and think, “I’m not a decorator. This isn’t for me.”

But you are a decorator (you just might not know it yet).

I created School of Decorating to help you find your inner decorator. You can learn how to decorate for yourself and gain the confidence you need to decorate your home. And that’s something anyone with a place to call home needs.

I am constantly amazed at the diversity of School of Decorating members, not just locations (we have members around the world), but also their experiences and interests. The one thing unifying them all is their desire to create a better home.

School of decorating isn’t right for everyone, but here’s three types of decorators it’s made for. Do any of these describe you?

The Decorating Hobbyist

For you decorating isn’t just a hobby, it’s your love language. It’s one way you show your love and care for your family, your home, and yourself.

You’re always thirsty for more. You feel empty when you near the end of a decorating book or magazine and don’t find any ideas you actually want to use in your home. Your un-quenched thirst leaves you on an endless search for inspiration. But what you’re really looking for are actionable ideas—decorating you actually want to do in your home.

What if you could have a slow drip of actionable decorating ideas? So you can stop reading and daydreaming about decorating and start doing it. With School of Decorating, every month you get a new decorating class with steps you can take in your home right away. Plus, you get an inspiring expert interview and the SoD community forum to feed your decorating hobby.

The Scientific-Minded

You don’t just need the how, you crave the why. Because as any good scientist knows, when you know why something works you can replicate it again and again. In decorating, when you know why something looks good, you can translate what works to every room in your home.

School of Decorating was created with you in mind. I am you and I used to be frustrated too. I taught myself how to decorate by breaking it down into bite size chunks, dissecting what makes rooms look good, and experimenting in my homes. I always struggled to find decorating inspiration and advice that explained it in the way I needed. I built School of Decorating to help other left-brained thinkers decorate for themselves.

The Decorating-Challenged

You’re pretty sure there is a gene missing in your DNA–the one that makes decorating easy. The truth is there is no such gene. Some people are naturally good at style, some enjoy the trial and error process until it finally looks right, and some people just look to someone else to do it.

It’s okay if it doesn’t come naturally to you, because you can learn how to decorate.

The real way decorating gets easier is when your confidence grows. It takes three things to make that happen: knowledge, inspiration, and support. Not so coincidentally I made School Of Decorating to offer those three things:

  1. Knowledge through a monthly decorating class that breaks down one decorating topic so you understand how to use what you learn in your home.
  2. Inspiration through expert interviews with super relatable bloggers and authors that will leave you feeling like you can do this.
  3. Support through a community of members eager to answer your questions, check in on your progress, and cheer you on through it all.

If you crave change in your home, want to learn to decorate for yourself, and finally find your decorating confidence, School of Decorating’s premium classes and community can help you create a more beautiful and comfortable home—but only if you join now.

Don’t delay! Enrollment closes on March 31st. We won’t be accepting new members again until late summer or fall. There’s no risk in joining. You can cancel at any time. Learn more here.
