Rose Cottage guest bedroom colour palette

Yesterday I was telling you how this time last year I was working on colour palettes and design ideas for my new book 'Torie Jayne's Stylish Home Sewing'. So today I wanted to share with you the colour palette I used for our new guest bedroom...

After moving in to our house in the beautiful countryside of Devon we painted the guest room walls white as originally they were a very dark hot pink colour. In my head I was thinking that we would paint all the walls in the house white and add lots of colour and interest through soft furnishings and accessories. I love how white walls makes room feel bigger, cleaner and brighter and am always inspired by how the Scandinavians create beautiful inviting homes with white walls. Due to the location of our new house and in particular the guest bedroom, it looks out over neighbouring farm land, I was keen to go for a "modern country cottage" look so my guests who would be mainly visiting us from the city would have a country escape type feel to their stay with us.

For me a 'Country Cottage" style involves florals so I started looking for vintage fabrics, my first stop being 'The Linen Garden' a beautiful vintage fabric and haberdashery store run by the talented Vicky Trainor who I featured in my first book "Craft, Show & Sell". That is where I found and fell in love with the green based floral fabric you can see on the front cover of my new book. I just loved the colours in the print and the style of the flowers so I ordered what Vicky had of it along with beautiful broderie trims. As soon as the beautiful package arrived from 'The Linen Garden' I started matching up the colours in the print with my Pantone postcards and rummaging through my craft supplies to see what I had that would match the colours I had picked out...

With my mind made up that I had found my perfect colour palette of pale apple green, fresh mint, teal, powder pink, coral and pretty latte, I went about ordering swatches and sampling of other fabric and trims that would go with my new guest bedroom colour palette. I narrowed down my selection and started designing...
