Cycling holidays in Europe seem more popular than ever. We’re hearing everywhere about cycling holidays from independent trips to guided cycling tours.

In fact, in the UK alone, the cycling tourism industry is thought to be worth around £1bn.

“The British cycling holiday has become more popular than ever, and now appears more attractive even to those who aren’t hardcore cyclists,” Norma McCaskil, of MyBeautifulBike, a UK supplier of stylish Dutch bicycles (above).

“Couples and small families are now taking their trendy city bikes and sit-up-and-beg bicycles to areas like the Lake District, the Peak District and the Cotswolds, finding some of Britain’s most beautiful cycle paths and enjoying beautiful scenery in the process.”

In the UK, The National Cycle Network (NCN) covers some 12,000 miles with many of the paths fully paved and easy-to-cycle and basic towpath or bridleway-style paths. Designed for all age groups and abilities, the paths are often positioned near some of Britain’s best known landmarks and towns.

For example, in Wales, for breathtaking coastal scenery and charming seaside towns of Llandudno and Colwyn Bay, cyclists can take route number five on the NCN which runs along the top of the Welsh coast. While in England, route number 88 is The Centurion Way which takes cyclists from Chichester to West Dean, including archaeological sites and a number of museums and the nearby holiday town Bognor Regis.
