Where to Shop in Gothenburg :: Market 29

If you ask where to shop in Gothenburg, Sweden, chances are that most of the locals are going to recommend heading directly to Haga, a super quaint shopping street filled with antique stores, bakeries, and cobblestoned streets. Among these great little shops and cafes, you will also find Market 29, a shop that finds the perfect balance of modern, industrial, and cool.

I thought I had died and gone to heaven the moment I walked in! All of my favorite brands seemed to be here, from Tom Dixon, to Louise Roe, to Menu plus many unique, handmade items that you might not find anywhere else. Normally my kids let out a collective groan when we walk into a shop like this because they know I will want to stay forever and ever, flipping over each item to see who made it (I’m always on the hunt for new artists!) but this time my entire family enjoyed this shop.

There were so many interesting items and the kids and Jack went on their own little treasure hunt, searching for just the thing they knew I would love. (So sweet!) My littlest kept bringing me bowls, plates, rugs… you name it… and I kept nervously asking him to stop touching and just point! My middle guy was so adorable bringing me a stack of lavender sachets because they reminded him of me (those we had to have!) and my husband found a new favorite soap. Of course Hailey always knows my tastes and can predict what I will like before I even arrive to it.

It was so sweet to have my whole family enjoy a shop with me. I know a lot of parents are nervous about going into stores with kids unless the whole shop is covered in bubble wrap or only sells plastic items, but we have always tried to encourage our kids to look with us. I tell my kids that Mommy gets a turn (even if it is a quick one at times!) and I will do the same for them.

So, whether you are looking for a great place to shop in Gothenburg with or without kids, be sure to check out Market 29… It’s a real treat!

Is this the kind of shop you would want to visit in Sweden? Do you/did you take your kids in shops with breakable items, too?
