{Eating SLC} Vertical Diner

Vertical Diner is THE spot in Salt Lake City for diner style vegan eats. If you can eat wheat, you should try their classics like the tender tigers and pancakes. But if you can’t, never fear, they still have loads of yummy GF options.

One of my favorites is the Reuben. Something about the combo of sauerkraut and thousand island just rocks my world. Most of the time a vegan Reuben involves a lot of gluten because of the fake meat. But at Vertical Diner you can get it with tempeh or mushrooms and a rice tortilla instead of bread. NOW, I will say, it would ROCK MY WORLD if they started carrying the GF bread from City Cakes (previously seen here), but I love their artisan sauerkraut so much that I’m happy to deal with the tortilla.

It comes with carrot stick or chips but I love to upgrade to their mashed potatoes and gravy because GUYS, they have the worlds greatest vegan gravy. Whatever you order, make sure you are able to incorporate the gravy somehow. Trust me. My mom always buys a tub of it for me on holidays and everyone ends up eating it. I like to think of it as savory frosting.

So this last shot here is obvi not GF. But I figured I would show you what the BF ordered anyways. This isn’t his typical order but it is one of his favorites, the Philly Cheese steak.

Now tell me, what’s your favorite diner food?
