D.I.Y. Cat Teepee

I’ve been eyeing Cat Teepees (or tipis or however you prefer to spell it) for a long time now. I even considered paying a good amount of money and just ordering one -Etsy-. But knowing my mother was coming for a visit persuaded me to wait and try to make one on my, our, own. It turns out I’m more crafty than I thought!

Here are the steps:

I purchased all of my materials at Joanne Fabrics. The dowels are extremely cheap (.59 to .99 each). Fabric cost can range anywhere from $3 per yard to $20. The leather twine was under $4.

We used

this video as our guide and started by securing these three dowels together with the leather twine.

There was really no rhyme or reason when securing the dowels together. My mother expertly swerved the twine in and out and around until the dowels could stand on their own.

Cut the fuzzy base fabric into an oval shape for the bottom of the teepee.

Fold the yard of fabric in half and cut into teepee shape (see the video link posted in step 2).

Now you’re ready to place the teepee fabric over the dowels and into place. Petey was VERY involved in the entire process.

Secure the teepee together with a safety-pin up under the tied twine. Did I mention this project involves zero sewing?!

Finished!

Gilligan got his own too!
