My Royal Closet: Chrissy & Lauren from Prince George Pieces!

Welcome to My Royal Closet! Each month, take a look into a different closet that has been royally-inspired by Kate. The Duchess of Cambridge has been a huge influence on our closets, and we want to share our favorite repliKates and outfits with you!

Meet Lauren & Chrissy: Although both have day jobs in the non-profit arts sector half-way across the country from each other, Lauren and Chrissy co-founded and run the blog, Prince George Pieces: Aristocratic Accoutrements. The two friends came upon the idea to create a blog dedicated to Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge, the baby sure to follow in his mother’s elegant and classic fashion, while following (closely!) the sartorial choices of the Duchess of Cambridge. In their free time, they indulge in cultivating their Kate-inspired wardrobes. Lauren and Chrissy’s only regret is that they don’t wear the same size in order to share their royal closet!

Pied a Terre “Imperia” Wedges

I’d seen her wear them before, but when Kate stepped out of the Lindo Wing in her Natural Pied a Terre Imperias, I knew they were the perfect summer shoe for me. Unfortunately, they could only be found online in black, navy, and red for a while, but I continued to regularly search. So when the nude color became available around my birthday in May, I immediately snatched up a pair! These wedges are incredibly comfortable owing to their relatively low heel height – they’re only about 3 inches tall. These wedges are extremely versatile; I wore them with dresses, shorts, and pants all summer long.

Navy Zara Military Blazer & Gap Fitted Boyfriend Gingham Shirt

Living in the Eastern Time zone, the clothing items Kate wears to morning engagements are often sold out by the time I wake up. However, with Prince George’s Royal Tour presence this spring, Chrissy and I were up all hours of the night following the Cambridges’ adventure Down Under. Because of this, I was able to quickly purchase Kate’s navy Zara blazer the second it was ID’d along with the coordinating Gap shirt. The two look great together and equally well worn separately.

It is interesting to note that the blazer is quite heavy and very much a winter piece. I was surprised that Kate wore it so many times over the summer considering how warm it keeps me, but it certainly is cute! The Gap shirt fits a bit boxier than expected, and it shrunk in the wash, so if you get your hands on one, make sure not to put it in the dryer! Thankfully, it still works as a layering piece under a sweater or blazer.

Longchamp “Le Pliage” Large Tote

Kate’s Longchamp Le Pliage bags have been a longtime staple in her wardrobe from her college days with the small brown handbag, to the North American tour with the large, red shopper, and most recently, the large shoulder tote bag in black. She frequently carries the shoulder bag on shopping trips, and we’ve even spotted Nanny Maria repurposing a navy one as a diaper bag for Prince George! I knew this versatile and durable accessory was worth investing in and practical for my own lifestyle. A couple years ago, my grandmother gave me this black beauty as the perfect birthday gift, and it’s been an integral part of my daily life ever since. I love being able to carry all my essentials while still having room to toss in my lunch bag for work or a couple of books for class. It is waterproof and stain resistant, and only after much use have I started to notice some wear in the bottom corners of the bag. The solitary negative is that this is a true tote bag with only one, small pocket; so keeping the contents separated and organized can be quite a challenge. I have fallen so in love with Longchamp that I bought a brown weekender bag last summer and use it for all of my overnight trips – it’s perfect!

J. Brand 811 Skinny Jeans

As you might have noticed, I really gravitate toward pieces Kate is seen wearing frequently and in diverse situations, which lead me to purchase the J Brand 811s in navy twill. I cannot gush enough over these bottoms. Not only is the fabric soft and comfortable, but the pants are also extremely flattering. They required hemming to get the length of the inseam just right on me, but that is a common alteration I face at just 5 feet tall. I wear them with everything, all year long – they’re so easy! One of my absolute favorite combinations is the rich, navy color against grey, Mint Velvet Bibi Plimsolls.

Hobbs Prior Ballerina Flats

The Hobbs Prior Ballerina flats in black are darling shoes that I just adore. Lauren and I both are of the camp that believes Kate wore these Hobbs flats leaving Youlls Antiques Shop on June 22, 2013, while she was pregnant with George instead of her French Sole flats. Lauren owns the French Sole flats, and we compared them with my Hobbs ones. After examining the photos of Kate, we firmly believe the fit and fuller toe coverage are identical to the Hobbs flats. Let me tell you, if you are in the market for a pair of comfortable and classic shoes, these are the ones to get. The leather is buttery soft; I never want to take these off! No wonder the pregnant Kate chose them for a day of shopping; they’re indispensable in my book. Now to purchase one in every color…
