I Created a Stitch Fix Monster

I started a new job in November. Because I’m now in house counsel instead of an associate at a firm or agency, I’m not surrounded by the stereotypical gender lines. What does this mean? There are a lot of women around.

So now, when I get a hair cut or buy new clothes, people actually notice. Imagine that. It’s AWESOME! haha

It also inspires me to buy new clothes and get new hair cuts. This isn’t great for my budget, but it’s also so, so fun. I forgot how fun it is to shop.

I’ve spent the last couple years on an incredibly tight budget and it has really started to pay off. I’m making huge strides against my credit card balances and they’re even upping my limits (which is OK at this point because I’m not charging on them, and it helps my credit score’s debt ratio).

The new job also inspired me to get another Stitch Fix box. It’s been awhile since my last Fix and I felt like I was in a clothing slump.

Do you know what I mean? Where every time you go to the store you buy basically the same thing over and over. It’s either the same color (hello, navy blue), or the same fit (hello, scoop neck tanks to wear under blazers). I needed something new. When I told one of my coworkers that I had just ordered a Fix she wanted to sign up too. She and I got our boxes on the same day and it was so fun to compare them!

Then, another coworker saw our boxes and had to have one herself.

The word has spread like wildfire. Every time someone is wearing something new, there’s a 50% chance that the words “I got it from my Stitch Fix box” are coming next.



This top is the one I wasn’t sure about, but with different colored jeans it’s great!

My last fix was so good that I actually kept all five items. It felt decadent, but at the same time, the 25% off coupon that you get actually saved me more money than sending the one item back I wasn’t sure about. Since that time I’ve actually worn the not-so-sure-about item several times. Those stitch fix stylists sure do know what’s up!

This dress. Oh man. I LOVE it. I’ve worn it to work and a lawyer banquet post-work. I’m going to wear it to meetings today. I’d wear it all the time if that wouldn’t be weird.

How it works: Sign up, fill out the super fun survey about clothes and then pay the $20 styling fee. If you keep even one thing, that $20 is credited toward the price of the item. You schedule the fix when you want. It can be once a month or once a quarter but that’s all up to you. You get a few days to try it all on, decide what you want, keep it all, keep a couple, and toss it in the shipping prepaid bag to return to Stitch Fix. When you’re done, you go online, explain what you did and didn’t like about everything, and then wait for the compliments to roll in. (Of course, if you work in an all male environment, don’t expect them to notice.)
