The Planner 2015. Pre-Order Now
That time of the year is almost here. That time being the opening of The Planner 2015 scheduled for Dec 4th, 7PM @ design concept store Paviljons.
This year we’ve introduced pre-order for those impatient / busy in nature. PRE-ORDER YOUR PLANNER HERE, get it signed by me and:
a) collect it personally at Latvian design concept store Paviljons (Terbatas street 55) starting from Dec 5th
b) wait till I ship it to your doorstep anywhere in the world (all shippings will also take place starting from Dec 5th).
The Planner 2015 is themed This Weird Place Latvia and features dark grey hard cover with embossed drawing of Latvian potato by Agrita Krievina.
Here go excerpts from some of the essays printed in The Planner 2015.
“How do Latvians recognize one another? The language, to be sure – the only one of its kind in the world, full of those wide-open vowels and endlessly hissing sibilance. To non-speakers it always sounds like we’re shushing each other (šito, šo, šādi, šurp, šašliks) or singers from a mixed choir warming up their vocal chords: tik un tā, tā un jā, jūrā un dārzā un mājās.”
“Latvians love mushrooming so much that they organise mushrooming championships. Those who choose a sofa instead of active leisure get called a mushroom.”
“Each time I go to the forest, I see it differently. Latvian forests keep secrets, unique nature and living creatures. For that I am willing to carry heavy photo equipment, put up with mosquito and horsefly bites, get wet through in the rain, a little lost and a little scared.”
“My Grandpa was a real Latvian country man with a farmstead, horse, hay barn and potato field. I always liked to imagine how he fell in love with my grandma, standing there in his potato field. Then, of course, he wasn’t a grandfather yet and she wasn’t a grandmother, because there wasn’t my mother or father or me yet. There were only the two of them and a flowering potato field.”

The Plānotājs 2015 tēma ir This Weird Place Latvia jeb Šī dīvainā vieta Latvija. Plānotājs iesiets pelēkos, cietos vākos ar tajā iespiestu Latvijas kartupeļa kontūru (autore māksliniece Agrita Krieviņa).

“Kā latvieši cits citu atpazīst? Drošākais pavediens ir valoda – vienīgā pasaulē, ar platiem patskaņiem un nebeidzami daudzām šņākoņai līdzīgām skaņām. Tiem, kas nezina latviešu valodu, allaž izklausās, ka mēs citu citu kušinām (šito, šo, šādi, šurp, šašliks) vai kā koristi iesildām balss saites – tik un tā, tā un jā, jūrā un dārzā, un mājās.”
“Katru reizi, ejot uz mežu, es to redzu citādi. Latvijas meži glabā noslēpumus, unikālu dabu un dzīvo radību. Un tā visa dēļ esmu gatava nest smagas fotosomas, paciest odu un dunduru kodumus, izmirkt lietū, mazliet apmaldīties un mazliet baidīties.”
“Latviešiem tik trakoti patīk sēņot, ka viņi rīko sēņošanas čempionātus. Un sauc par sēnēm tos, kuri aktīvās atpūtas vietā izvēlas dīvānu.”
“Mans vecvectētiņš bija īsts Latvijas lauku vīrs ar saimniecību, zirgu un siena šķūni, ar kartupeļu lauku. Man vienmēr patika iztēloties, kā viņš iemīlējās manā vecvecmāmiņā, stāvot kartupeļu laukā. Tad viņš, protams, vēl nebija vecvectētiņš, un viņa nebija vecvecmāmiņa, jo vēl nebija ne manas vecmāmiņas, ne tēta, ne manis pašas. Bija tikai viņi divi un ziedošs kartupeļu lauks.”
