Aix-en-Provence

Lavender

During our long weekend in Marseille, Mum and I hopped on a bus for a short day trip to Aix-en-Provence, about half an hour down the road. I’d heard how beautiful this city was, and it was confirmed pretty much as soon as we stepped foot there.

Our planning wasn’t exactly wonderful; there was a triathlon happening that day, meaning the famous Cours Mirabeau was full of people cheering their friends and family at the finish line. It also happened to be a Sunday, and French shops don’t tend to be too keen on opening on Sundays, but it didn’t stop us enjoying the place. We strolled through idyllic backstreets, taking in the scenery and avoiding the crowds. I could see why it was so popular with tourists, it was picture perfect!

Aix is famous for it’s markets, and you’ll find them on most days – we managed to catch flowers, books and food. I walked away with some local lavender that kept my bits and bobs smelling good on our return journey. If you love lavender, Provence is the place to find it!

If you’re planning on heading down to Marseille, don’t leave a day or two in Aix off your to-do list!

Thanks once again to Eurostar for inviting us down to experience the South of France! x
