Defy Dry Skin

With Burts Bees

This past year I’ve been working with Burts Bees to put their products to the test and report back to you guys about it – next on my hit-list is their Intense Hydration skincare range!

If you’re anything like me, you’ll get excited by skincare with the words ‘intense hydration’ involved. I’d say my skin type is combination, but more often than not, the dry part is the worse of two evils, leaving me with patchy foundation (yuck). So of course, this range sounded like a total dream, claiming to reduce fine lines and wrinkles to boot.

Cue a no-makeup day with a lot of pampering involved, intent on banishing those dry patches. Let’s see how I fared…

Intense Hydration Cleanser

Now a good cleanser is definitely something I love coming across, and I might have just found a new favourite. The Intense Hydration Cleanser has a lightweight foamy feel to it, but applies like a cream. I wet my face and massaged it in, before wiping it away with a nice hot cloth.

Although the products all have the same scent – Clary Sage – I particularly appreciated it in this product. It left my face feeling squeaky clean! And I love that the tube is big enough that you can use it daily without having to worry about repurchasing for a while!

Intense Hydration Day Lotion

Popping on moisturiser is probably about as far as I go in my usual routine to keep my face looking hydrated, so this seemed like a great place to start. The Intense Hydration Day Lotion is definitely a lot thicker than other creams I’ve used during the day, so that’s worth bearing in mind before you squirt out a little too much – a little goes a long way.

I concentrated the lotion around my nose and cheeks, as they are usually my problem areas. This isn’t the kind of cream that’ll vanish into your skin straight away – it sits there for bit like a night cream, but when it is absorbed, it creates a great base for you to pop on your foundation without worry of pesky flakes of skin.

This lotion is great if you’re looking for something more heavy-duty than your average moisturiser!

Intense Hydration Eye Cream

Like I said above, my usual lazy skincare routine doesn’t usually extend past popping on moisturiser in the morning, so eye cream is kind of a new thing for me.

I dotted it on using the pen-style applicator and gently rubbed it in. Whilst it might take introducing this little one into your routine to see visible results, my eyes were certainly feeling like they’d had a hydrating boost, and that’s always a good thing! A step I can most definitely start implementing on the regular.

Intense Hydration Night Cream

A night cream is something I’ve been meaning to introduce to my bedtime routine for a while, as it’s the perfect time to throw on an intense, thick cream and let it do it’s job. This night cream is both of those things – intense and thick. As with the day lotion, a little goes a long way.

When you apply it, it feels as if it would never absorb, but a few minutes later it’s gone, without leaving a greasy layer. This one is a new permanent fixture on my bedside table, and I can’t wait to see the difference that it makes in the long-term.

Intense Hydration Treatment Mask

It’s not often I take the time out to put on a treatment mask, but I’m pretty sure that simply taking 15 minutes to concentrate on yourself and your skin does wonders without even putting the product on!

I slathered on the cream mask and sat down for a good 10 minutes whilst it did it’s job. You’ll find that it starts to soak into your skin, and when you buff it off you’re left with a very clean-feeling soft face.

This product seems like the perfect solution for when the weather has been a little too harsh to your poor face. Whether it’s patchy from bitter wind in the winter, or has dried out in the summer sun, this injection of hydration will certainly help.

The Verdict?

This range is a dream for folks with dry skin and does what it says on the tin. I’d advise that using all products in the range as your regular skincare routine may be a little too intense and leave your skin feeling like it’s full of product (hydrating, nonetheless!), but adding them in at the appropriate times (i.e when your skin needs a big drink!), it’s ideal.

I’ve found a few new favourites, and what’s better is they are all 99% natural. Win!
