Etsy in Brighton

#EtsyBloggerSleepover

Like I mentioned in my last post, last week, myself and a bunch of other fabulous blogging ladies made our way down to Brighton with Etsy for a couple of days of good food, shopping and DIY fun.

Of course, one of the main purposes was to meet and get to know some of the talented Etsy sellers based down by the seaside in Brighton, so once we’d arrived, filled up on healthy goodness (not two words I’d usually put together) at Silo, we made our way to Lick Studios to get the show on the road…

Meet the sellers

It’s almost obvious that there would be a big community of Etsy sellers in Brighton – it’s such a creative hive. When we arrived at Lick (a Frozen Yoghurt factory, dontcha know?!) they were all squirrelling away on their respective pieces, painting, screen printing, jewellery making and more.

I absolutely love discovering new sellers to obsess over on Etsy (it’s where I used to buy the majority of my vintage clothing!) so couldn’t wait to make my way round and see what they were all up to…but first, it was time for us to get a little crafty…

Flowers with Georgie St Clair

First up was some floral fashion with illustrator Georgie St Clair, who uses fresh flowers in her work. Whilst it doesn’t feel too natural pulling petals off (sorry again, little flower!) it certainly makes for a simple but effective craft project.

We used our petals to create dresses for our illustrated models – mine was perhaps a little bridal inspired with a full skirt made of light pink rose petals. You can see more of Georgie’s work here!

Designosaur

After having a little break to chow down on some frozen yoghurt (it was the first time I’d ever tried it..can you believe that?!), it was time to get jewellery making with Designosaur.

If you’re into colourful, fun perspex pieces (and/or dinosaurs) then you’ll love Designosaur’s Etsy store. We all got out our pliers and jump rings and made ourselves a dinosaur-themed piece to take away. Mine was a gold bracelet – as delicate a piece of jewellery as you can get when perspex dinosaurs are involved!

Rock Cakes

Dinosaur bracelet complete, it was time to explore the make-shift workspaces of the rest of the sellers. I was drawn to the Rock Cakes stand – owner Sarah was busy at work painting her wooden brooches, and I was kind of jealous that I couldn’t join in with the fiddly-looking task of painting boxes of fries and burgers.

If chunky, poppy bits of jewellery aren’t really your bag, Sarah also creates beautiful delicate pieces in silver and gold – this little king bird is a favourite of mine.

Cats Cats Cats

Now here’s a seller I think you’ll like! Imagine a shop where everything is cat-themed. Yeah, sounds good right? Meet Toby from I Like Cats, who likes cats that much that he sells notebooks, illustrations, t-shirts, cards, jewellery and other accessories covered in the furry creatures.

We all got rather excited over Toby’s booth, decorated with cat illustrations, Spice Girls postcards and a Furby, and I could guess based on his chosen decor alone that I’d love the contents of his shop! This notebook has to be my favourite!

Hello Dodo

I have a lot of admiration for anyone patient enough to screen print – I think the two posters I produced at Uni probably put me off for a good while, so I watched with admiration as Hello Dodo created hundreds of Brighton-themed postcards in front of us.

In their store, you’ll find their punny prints on everything from t-shirts and badges to prints and clothing. And it’s all bright and colourful, too!

Oh Someday

Another jewellery seller for you to fall in love with! Oh Someday create delicate pieces featuring little quotes or lyrics, star signs and symbols.

I’m almost tempted to get one of her signature bracelets personalised (‘wishwishwish’, of course!)

I hope you’ve found a few new favourites like I did! One last post from Brighton coming up very soon!
