‘Ito Weather’ Minimalist Cafe by Japanese Studio Ninkipen!

‘Ito Weather’ is a minimalist cafe in Osaka, Japan, designed by Japanese studio Ninkipen!. The architect, Yasuo Imazu, wanted to create a space that had a strong connection with the nature outside, thus creating a small garden that is visible from the inside through a series of sliding glazed doors.

Majority of the space is constructed in Oak, while mud walls, brick, and artificial stone were used as accents throughout. Ninkipen! used a variety of materials for the interior of Ito-biyori cafe to create a “simple and warm atmosphere.” A large circular mirror mounted onto a rough concrete wall reflects the small Jabuticaba tree planted in the centre of the cafe.

The 67 sqm space is filled with Danish Modernist pieces such as Wegner’s famous Wishbones and Børge Mogensen’s J39 chairs, which are tucked beneath oak tables. The two-seater tables, placed in a row along the concrete wall, are each illuminated by a small pendant light dangling above. A conical ceramic pendant by designer Hiroyuki Nagatomi hangs above the monolithic service counter, which is topped with a glass vitrine. The counter and planter are made from white artificial stone, while the floor is polished concrete.
