Wedding Countdown: 6 Months To Go

Now that we’re down to the 6 month mark, it’s wedding planning crunch time! The last 3 months have been big and busy months for both me and my fiancee. In December, we’ve moved to a new home, celebrated our second Christmas in Toronto, and in January made a long awaited visit to my hometown family and friends in Vancouver. Between all the commotion, I’ve been slowly checking off things our our wedding to-do list, as well as getting inspired with decor ideas on Pinterest.

So with 6 months to go, here’s what we’ve crossed off our wedding planning checklist for our Toronto wedding:

Venue Visit:

My darling fiancée was ever-so-sweet to plan a surprise romantic Valentine’s Day dinner at our wedding venue, Caffino. The food was delicious and the service was great! It was so nice to visit the restaurant while in full service and in its natural atmosphere. The experience just reaffirmed that we made the right choice for our venue.

Wedding Officiant:

Finding the right officiant was a difficult choice for us. Even though we’re having our official ceremony in Vancouver, we still wanted to have a thoughtful meaningful experience for our friends and family here in Toronto. After speaking with a few officiants, we decided to go with Rev. Bob Buckley.

Guest List:

We finalized our guest list back in December. We plan to have an intimate wedding with about 60-70 of our close family and friends.

Wedding Invites:

Since we are having 2 weddings, we decided to go for unique wedding invitation designs for each to them. We wanted to pick something that reflected the individual venues and atmosphere of each. For our Toronto wedding we decided to go to a rose gold foiled invite. It’s both classic and vintage, just like our venue. After receiving some samples from Wedding Paper Divas, we decided to go with them for our invites. The process for ordering and customizing them was pretty simple and we received them in early January. We’re in the process finishing collecting the addresses and we plan to mail the invites out by the beginning of March.

Next on the to-do list for our Toronto wedding:
  • Ceremony Music
  • Reception Music
  • Find an MC
  • Decor / Flowers
  • Cake

Now on to wedding #2 in Vancouver!

(Yes, that’s right, if you’re just joining in now, we’re having 2 weddings. One on the west coast where I grew up, and another in Toronto where were currently live!)

For our Vancouver wedding, we are a little further along the way of our wedding planning journey, thanks to my trusty wedding planner and wonderful cousin, Jessie from Elysium Events.

Ceremony Music:

I’ve always known that I wanted to have a harp playing at my wedding. It’s such a beautiful instrument with a romantic sound and a whimsical look. Since our ceremony is being held outdoors, we thought that doing a harp and violin duo would be best. We decided to go with Musical Occasions to book our duo, which we plan to use to both our Ceremony and Cocktail Hour music.

Invites:

As I mentioned above, we decided to go with Wedding Paper Divas for our invites. For our Vancouver wedding, we decided to go for a floral style invites. I thought it would be a good reflection of the outdoor garden ceremony and our venue, Hycroft Manor. These have been ordered and arrived as well, just in the process or addressing to be sent out in the coming weeks.

MC:

When it came to picking our Master of Ceremonies (MC), we wanted to pick someone who knew us, as well as someone who was really great at making a connection with people. There was one person that immediately popped into mind for us, which was one my fiancee’s former roommates. He’s super fun guy and he’s great in front of people, so I’m so pleased that he agreed to do it!

Decor:

At the moment we’ve just decided on chair covers and sashes, as well as some lighting which we will be renting from Lavish Decor Group. We’ve been thinking about doing a lantern themed looked, using lanterns and maybe some vintage teacups with florals as centerpieces. We’re still in the process of sourcing and putting everything together, so we will see how it all turns out!

Flowers:

During my visit in Vancouver, I had a chance to meet with our florist, Gloria from Flower Factory. We discussed the style of flowers I wanted and the various possibilities of decor. I was looking to create a romantic vintage look and she was totally on point with the vision I was trying to create. She put together a lovely little sample bouquet which was exactly what I was looking for. I can hardly wait to see the flowers on our wedding day!

Venue Visit:

While in town, I also had a chance to revisit our Venue, Hycroft Manor for another look. We took some time to figure out the placement of where things would go and other details.

Wedding Cake:

We’ve decided to have cupcakes with a small wedding topper for the take cutting. Though I love the look of a traditional wedding cake, they often taste a little less appealing than they look, and I’d personally rather have a tasty treat for our guests. I had a chance got sample some 4 flavors of cupcakes from The Bake Sale Baking Co. and they were all so delicious. I’m happy to say we’re going to go with them, but we have yet to decide on the flavors, (they were all so yummy) but at least we have the vendor booked!

Where to Stay:

Though I have family to stay with in Vancouver, we also wanted some time for ourselves leading up to the wedding to enjoy the city and neighborhood that we once lived. Since we had such great experiences with AirBnb while we travelling in Europe, we decided to get use it again for our stay in Vancouver. We found a nice condo, right in our old neighborhood in the heart of Downtown Vancouver. It will be great to be back in our old stomping grounds!

Next of the list of to do’s:

  • Decor
  • Reception music
  • Bridesmaid dresses
  • Stationary items
Now that we’re 6 months away, I’m started to get really excited about our weddings!
