A portfolio FD or Portfolio Finance Director is a rapidly growing niche in the UK market for Finance Directors. It has really taken off in the period since the economic crisis or credit crunch in 2008. Employers are seeking highly skilled team members but don't wish to commit to full time employment.
This makes good sense as some skills such as fund raising are not needed all year around so picking and mixing skills to match the time of year and needs and requirement of a business really is a good approach.
Some times a business needs help with budget preparation, other times year end audits and from time to time fund raising for acquisitions or restructuring of existing credit lines to take better advantage of the interest rates available in the market.
This niche has grown by around 300% in those years. It has many very positive advantages for the FD themselves, the daily rate is usually a lot higher, and the work often more suited to their skill sets.
For example my specialism is fund raising and Search marketing, both great valueable skills but not necessarily in demand all of the time from the same clients. However from time to time my clients really find my skills valuable. I therefore work two days per week for one client, one day per week for another and a few days a month for a third.
I am constantly looking for new Portfolio Finance Directors prepared to work with me, as I have more clients that I can fit into my diary, but I am also on the look out for Small to Medium Enterprises (SME's) who need a part time FD.
If you are looking for a Part time Finance Director or work as a Portfolio FD yourself then reach out to me and we may be able to work together.
