How Long Can Marijuana Be Detected In Saliva

Marijuana legalization is being embraced by many more states for both recreational and medical purposes. Nonetheless, companies and other conservative agencies require individuals to be weed free so as to work with them or apply for a position. Mental alertness is also a critical factor when it comes to driving. Driving under the influence of weed, alcohol or any other drug is illegal as it can impair your judgement.

Despite saliva marijuana tests being fairly new, they are increasingly being used. They are believed to have high accuracy levels in addition to being cheap, quick and easy to use. Hence the importance of having the awareness of how it works so as to pass saliva drug tests.

The mechanism behind the saliva drug test

The saliva tests screen for the presence of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). After smoking weed, THC is found lined inside your mouth before it’s metabolized. If you are exposed to smoke or you ingest marijuana, a saliva drug test can show positive results as well.

The roadside marijuana breathalyzer can detect THC in as little as two hours from inhalation of weed. THC in saliva drug tests can be detected for a period of 24 hours. However, in occasional users, it can be detected between 1-3 days. For chronic users, it can take up to 30 days.

Weed can be easily detected in body fluids for a period of up to 30 days after consumption. The detection window is dependent on how much and how often you smoke. In fact, daily users can have a detection period of up to 90 days.

Factors influencing marijuana detection window

• Type of marijuana

Different strains of marijuana have different amounts of the THC compound. The cannabis concentration determines the THC levels.

• Frequency and duration of marijuana use.

Generally, the more the frequency and higher doses, the longer the detection window.

• Body metabolism rate

The higher the metabolism rate the more likely the body is to break cannabinoids faster.

• The method through which marijuana is taken into the body

When vaporized or smoked, it gets into the body very quickly hence showing up in a test almost immediately. However, if it’s eaten, it has to be digested before it shows up in a mouth swab test.

How to pass a saliva drug test

Whether it’s taken for recreation or medical purposes, the good news is that the body can naturally flush it out of the system. This makes it possible to pass a saliva drug test as long as you know the detection window.

Additionally, you can skirt through the screening by using a detox mouthwash, breath spray, or an alcohol oral rinse 30 minutes before the sample is collected. This has the potential of affecting the credibility of the results.

It’s advisable to take a lot of water and ingest diuretics to help get rid of traces of weed before a test. You can also go for over the counter pot flushing kits to help you pass not only a saliva drug test but also blood and urine drug tests.
