Going to college is an exiting time for students and their parents. However, it may also seem a bit overwhelming. There is a lot of work that goes into applying and going to college. Use the tips in this article to help ease the stress of going to college.

Bring a water bottle to school with you. Make sure you are always hydrated. This is very important if you're going to a lot of classes in a row and aren't able to get a meal in. Drinking during the day frequently allows you to keep focused on what you're doing. Water fountains make it easier to refill all kinds of water bottles now.

If you recently entered college, one of the first things that you should do is purchase your books from the bookstore. This will help you to reduce the stresses that you will face as the year begins, as you should always come prepared with the right materials and texts for school.

When taking a test, you need to eat breakfast. Even if you're short on time, grab a piece of fruit or a cup of yogurt. Your stomach can be a huge distraction when you are trying to take a test. Getting something to eat before a test will help you to keep your energy level up and make it easier to focus on the work at hand.

Make sure that you do not let a balance lag on a credit card. This prevents several penalties and late fees. Generally, you should only use a credit card when an emergency arises. Don't use it to go to the movies, bar or a restaurant. Having problems with your finances can distract you quite a bit.

Ride the bus to campus. Often times, the time it takes to ride the bus is about the same as it would be to drive there. You will not have to worry about a parking spot or have to pay for parking if that is the case. You don't have to pay for gas and parking passes. This is also your way of saving the environment.

You should be respectful of your roommate's wishes. You need to learn how to work with him or her so that it makes your time easier. Sit down when you first get to school and find out what you both expect out of a roommate so you can both be happy.

When you go to college you often times will stay out late with friends to study or go to a party. Be safe, never walk home alone, carry your phone with you at all times, know where the safe zones are on campus, and consider carrying a small spray canister of pepper spray with you.

If you are an adult going back to college, try signing up for night classes. The classes during the day time are full of young adults right out of high school. The night classes are usually filled with adults and students who are serious about their education. It will result in a much better college experience.

Don't focus on your friends back home or a boyfriend or girlfriend in your home town. Chances are you will not stay together through four years of college and you will grow apart. Just enjoy college, meet new people, and feel lucky that you have the opportunity to get away from home to better yourself and branch out.

If you are hesitating to choose a major, take a few classes in different areas of study. This way, you can take the time necessary to identify your interests. If you do not choose early you might have to take more classes than you first expected.

Going to college part time is a good way to balance a busy life but keep in mind that going to college full time will make you eligible for more scholarships. Take the time to compare your options and consider talking to your employer about changing your schedule so you can go to school full time.
