Find out the 7 things a minimalist would never have in their bedroom, to keep it peaceful, serene and beautiful.
Your bedroom is supposed to be your sanctuary. However, for many people, things can creep into the space that lead it to becoming cluttered, messy and not so peaceful. So, how do you keep your bedroom a sanctuary? Take a look at these 7 things a minimalist would never have in their bedroom and you could find inspiration:
1. Any Paperwork
Any paperwork whether it is old birthday cards, bills, newspapers or unread magazines should not be in your bedroom. It is an environment free from the worries of day to day life so it should not contain anything to remind you of them. Even if the paperwork is neatly piled, it will still subconsciously remind you of things you need to do the next day.
2. Tech
The blue light emitted from phones, computers and other tech disturbs your natural sleeping rhythm and will disrupt your sleep. The only thing you might find useful in the bedroom in the way of tech is a radio or something which plays music and that provides you with an alarm in the morning.
3. Ornaments
Minimalism is all about purpose and practicality and rarely will a minimalist have something in their house just because it is beautiful. Accessories with a purpose like plants which bring oxygen and life into a room are of course a great idea for a bedroom. But random ornaments, especially ones that gather dust that are only there because you wanted to fill a space should be taken out of the bedroom.
4. Bedside Table Clutter
Tablets, sleeping masks, water glasses and other clutter can quickly turn a bedside table into a stressful mess. Consider getting some bedroom drawers to store items you need efficiently and out of view.
5. Items Stuffed Under the Bed
Although there are pretty boxes and shelves for placing under the bed, usually knowing there are cluttered boxes will cause stress. If you are struggling for space it could be worth investing in some cheap self storage to at least store seasonal items and clear more space in your bedroom and elsewhere in your home.
6. Clothes
Clothes should be in your wardrobe, not on the floor or in fresh piles for sorting. As soon as your clothes are dirty put them in a basket for washing. As soon as your clothes are clean, put them in your wardrobe.
7. Cosmetics
Makeup, perfume and other items can quickly clog up a dressing table. Any you use regularly could be out and displayed nicely, but how much of what is out do you use? 20 body butters from Christmas? Sample perfumes from work you don't even like the smell of? Donate your unwanted cosmetics to charity and clear some space on your dressing table.
If you are finding that your bedroom is not as practical or minimalist as you would like it could be worth looking into cheap self storage for some extra space (see here). Alternatively, just decluttering and ridding yourself of unnecessary furniture will make all the difference, and help you find that bedroom sanctuary feel you've always wanted.
