Project management software for 2019

As any project manager knows having good tools makes your job much much easier. So we asked the experts at Parallel Project Training what software they were recommending to their project management apprenticeship delegates this year. Read on to find out what they said.

AceProject

A web-based project tracking app that can be used by individuals, teams or even whole enterprises to track projects. Budget tracking tools keep the money flowing while the Time Clock module makes child’s play of timing. At it’s heart is the Gantt chart, easily accessed from the project Dashboard.

Clarizen

Offering opportunities for team collaboration as well as project management this web app provides real time visibility on project progress and fosters better collaboration. By keeping project management and project materials together Clarizen promises to improve workflows and reduce inefficiencies.

Hive

Offering multiple ways of visualising project progress, including a simple calendar of deadlines, Gantt charts and Kanban flows Hive slots neatly into any setup, regardless of the project management methodology preferred by the team. Integration with over 1,000 other applications including Outlook, Google and Slack ensures collaborative teamwork is well-supported.

Intervals

Originally an in-house solution for time tracking Intervals has now grown into a full project management suite and has recently had a makeover with an improved user interface and better collaboration tools.

Jira

Especially designed for Agile teams Jira allows the planning and execution of sprints with issue management and story creation tools included. Integration with other software enables custom solutions to be created and Jira’s tracking tools allow teams to improve and monitor their own workflows to support the Agile principle of the self-organising team.

Mavenlink

Aimed more at controlling project budgets Mavenlink uses real time data on project progression to enable accurate decision making to take place. An overview of individual projects, analysing delivery costs, ROI and margins, or across an enterprise can be created allowing for accurate forecasting and cost control.

Project Insight

A cloud based platform that is intended to grow as your needs change. PI#team provides a simple, collaborative interface keeping project materials together and integrating with Slack. PI#business builds on the team platform and adds extra project management tools, whilst PI#enterprise offers tools to monitor multiple projects at once.

ProWorkflow

Offering timesheet and workflow monitoring from a single dashboard ProWorkflow has the advantage of having a mobile app – ideal for home-working or site visits.

Slack

A team messaging app which integrates with many project management tools and offers add-ons such as virtual assistants to enable better team communication.

Trello

A collaborative tool to help monitor tasks. Boards contain lists of tasks (cards) which can be freely moved from list to list. One way to use it might be to have a team board with a list for each member and a list of unallocated tasks. Cards can attachments for documents, checklists of sub-tasks, comments by team members and be given deadlines for completion. However Trello is totally flexible allowing different arrangements for different teams.
