5 Tips To Keep Your Bike In Top Condition

The bike is the best vehicle when you want to travel short distances. Also, it might be challenging to maintain it for all the seasons. Mostly, there arises a problem in the bike chain and so do we require a bike chain cleaner. WD-40 is a great bike chain lube.

WD-40 is a brilliant multi-use product that penetrates stuck parts, protects the metal from rust and corrosion, displaces moisture and lubricates almost everything. WD-40 also removes grease and grime from most surfaces.

Following are tips on keeping bikes in excellent condition all the time:

● When your bike chain requires cleaning, clean it by continuing it on the bike and do not take it off for cleaning purpose. Repeated breaking of chain weakens its link, which over time may lead to failure of the chain. Also, if the chain has a master link or quick link, avoid unnecessary breaking of that link as most new quick links are made for one-time use.

● To de-grease bike chain, put the bike on the work stand and shift the chain onto the largest chainring at the middle of the cassette. Spray WD40 on chain and chainrings and wipe deep grime using a stiff brush. You can either rinse or wipe dry the chain.

● For bike chain lube, drip the lubricant on rollers and each of the rollers separately instead of applying the spray along the length of chain. The oil does nothing for the visible part of the chain; it just works to reduce friction and keep dirt outside of the rollers. Also, wipe a cloth over the chain after letting the lubricant set as any lube left on the outside will be a magnet for dirt.

● As you go on washing your bike, do not forget to clean the underside of frame and fork where there are big chunks of gunk. Spray your entire bike from top to bottom with WD40. Use a soft brush and spray the product into all difficult places to get the dirt moving.

WD40 isn’t just a bike chain cleaner. It is a excellent lube even for derailleur pulley bolts, parallelogram pivots, brake pivots, and pedal retention springs. If you have just finished a wet ride, drop some lube inside the brake and derailleur cable housings to keep stuff freely moving. Wipe off excess lube without fail.
