Once the mud has dried, you have to pick up all the large pieces of mud with your fingers. Now, you have to use a vacuum cleaner for removing smaller bits of dirt from the carpet.

Create a solution (1 teaspoon of detergent to 1 cup of water) and apply it to the stain. Now, you have to allow the detergent to sit on that stain for few minutes now. This will help the stain to become softer. Once the stains have become softer, you can work on it now. Proceed to use a white cloth to work on the stain.
