Unwarranted adversity is nothing new to Motivational Speaker Derrick Kirk. In fact, it’s what has propelled him to become such a highly sought-after motivational speaker in less than a year’s time.
Kirk has endured and overcome numerous childhood traumas. Among them are having been abused, neglected and orphaned. These unique challenges afford him an exceptional story of perseverance that grips the audience when shared at his speaking engagements.
“It’s tough,” Kirk said. “I’ve dealt with so much while growing into the man I’ve become. Now that all of the troubles from my youth are behind me, I’m dealing with new obstacles as an adult and entrepreneur. Things like people trying to ruin my reputation or get over on me in a business deal. Being abandoned by associates and having to defend myself against accusations that are entirely untrue. I just hope it never affects an opportunity I may have to help people in the future.”
One of the current obstacles of which Kirk speaks is a false complaint filed against him and a company he owned prior to becoming a professional speaker. On a website called “Ripoff Report,” the former client claims that Kirk was paid an agreed upon fee but did not render the services promised. Kirk is adamant that he delivered as required, but the client was not satisfied with the response received - and thus set out to make these baseless claims.
Ripoff Report itself states on its homepage that it cannot guarantee the accuracy or authenticity of complaints. The site does not investigate the validity of claims reported.
“I feel I’ve mastered the ability and will to control what I can control in my life,” Kirk said. “It’s dealing with situations like this, that I have no power over that really test my mental fortitude. I’m sure that someday it will just be one more thing that I can add to my message in aiming to inspire others. Someday I’ll tell people how I made it through, and it’ll help them make it through.”
