10 Survival Skills That Every Bushcrafters Must Learn

The wilderness is a vast jungle that if you go deep inside, there are many challenges that will come your way. Many people have tried to check their survival skills and some were able to withstand the challenges there in. However, to those who are still planning to test their own survival skills, it is not as easy as you think of. The more you get deeper, the more the harder the challenges you will encounter.

Some survival skills that every bushcrafters must to learn

Making a fire - Making a fire is a very basic and important thing to learn in bushcraft. Fire is necessary to keep you warm at night, to prevent wild animals from going near you, to cook your food and in a way clear your surrounding from unwanted grass. If you don’t know how to make a fire, it will be difficult to survive in the woods. There are many ways to create a fire and learning few of them is essential.

Identifying edible and plants - While the forest is home for many wild animals, it is not easy to hunt them down for food. Sometimes, you need to rely on the plants in the surrounding for your meal. Learn to identify the characteristics of plants that grow in the area. Make sure that you know how to identify poisonous plants and plants that can be eaten.

Collecting water and purifying it - We all knew that we can last longer even with water alone, as compared to food. Knowing how to collect water and possibly purifying it is a must skill to learn. Some water in the forest are muddy for drinking and the challenge there is making it potable.

Catching animals for food - Hunting is usually associated with rifles and spears. But, when you are in a bushcraft activity, you only have knife or an axe with you. Learning to catch animals for food without a rifle, but, using a trap is a good skill to learn. This is one survival skill that one bushcrafter must learn.

Learning to make a rope out of plants - Rope are important component in making traps and snares. Learning the skill of making it is also a must.

Learn the skill of cooking in the wild - Cooking is important to make sure that your catch will not be wasted. It is even wise to cook your catch at once, to avoid it becoming spoiled. If don’t know how to cook, better not go bushcraft.

Building tents - Tents are a good shelter. You can make one out of branches and woods. It is important for you to have a safer place to rest at night. It can shield you from rain and cold mist. Yu must learn to build one simple shelter.

Knot tying - Building a shelter requires skill in knot tying. This will enable you to build a stronger shelter, bounded by strong ropes. Skill in knot tying is needed to make a stable structure using ropes.

First aid - This one is a must. Never go into the bush, without knowledge about first aid. You may be alone or in a small group, basic first aid skills, will help you survive.

Navigation skills - This skill is very important to make sure that you will not go astray. Learn the skill of compass reading or map reading. This navigational aid will help you keep the right directions.
