Understanding the concept of material handling equipment

Material handling equipment is a nebulous concept to the average person. People outside of the warehousing or industrial supply businesses think of it as a simple process of "moving stuff around." Those whose job it is to ensure that material and goods handling runs smoothly and efficiently, however, have a lot to say about it, as material handling is at the core of their business. Warehouse supply companies define handling materials very broadly. They see it as more than just transporting or manipulating materials. Like an organism or a machine, a warehouse is a dynamic system, all parts of which are interconnected. Therefore, they consider anything involving the safe and time-efficient handling and storage of any material as an integral part of the entire warehouse.

A pallet rack is essentially a static object, but to warehouse managers and employees, it is as indispensable as a forklift, a more obvious example of a piece of material. With the invention of the forklift, the transportation and movement of goods and materials changed forever. It changed the way the world handled materials and it is no exaggeration to say that the forklift revolutionized the warehousing industry, but without pallet racks, it could not work efficiently. Industrial designers and engineers are well aware that there is a relationship between the goods stored on a pallet rack and the functions of the pallet rack. This is why they have designed different types of pallet racks for different purposes.
