Make your Move Happy and Safe with Moving House Checklist

Here, we provide you with a moving house checklist and tips, these will surely help you save time and be more efficient in this challenging task.

Two Months Before

Make sure you have finalized deals and paperwork related to your new home – especially if your new home is overseas or in another state. You don’t want to move in without the legal documents or while another family is still living in your new house.

Check out your new home for supermarkets, schools, church, and other places that you will frequent. Start taking mental notes of where to drop by for milk or where to hang out on a Sunday.

If you are renting your current home, make sure to inform your landlord. Some landlords require a few months’ advance notice before a tenant moves out, otherwise, they might ask for penalty.

Start keeping track of subscriptions and emails that arrive. Inform the respective senders of your change in address in two months’ time and ask them to make the necessary arrangements.

Start making a list of the furniture and appliances you plan to take with you. Give away those that you won’t be bringing, or hold a garage sale to get additional funds which will come in handy for your moving expenses and change of address checklist.

Start advising friends and families of your move. You can easily do this with the help of technology and social network. Make sure to leave contact information like email addresses or cell phone number for easier communication.

A Month Before

Start processing your moving documents – go to the necessary government offices to declare your change in address and contact numbers.

It is also advisable to start looking for new internet, phone, and other service providers in your new home.

Go to your local banks and advise them of the move. Ask if your account can be transferred to the nearest branch from your new house.

Start packing. Let the family members pack their personal stuff. For the bigger stuff like furniture or appliances, it is advisable to hire Professional Movers Melbourne to ensure that these things will be packed and transported properly.

Decide on how to transport your pet and make arrangements if necessary. If you are moving to a place that is not very far from your current home, you may opt to take the family pet along with you in the car. If you are moving across borders, find a company that can take good care of your pet while transporting it.

One to Two Weeks Before

Call your service providers and start disconnecting your internet and phone connections. Keep a cellular phone or WI-Fi connection handy so people can contact you.

Make necessary arrangements for electricity, water, and gas bills.

Pack everything and leave out clothes and necessities that could last you for a few days.

On the Day Itself!

Make sure that you have everything you plan to take with you. Again, if you are moving to a far location, you will have a hard time retrieving this item back later on.

Lock all doors and windows before leaving.

To have a hassle-free moving experience, make sure you prepare well and plan ahead. Contact your moving company in advance to ask how they can assist you. Happy moving!
