The latest season of fashion shows in Europe has given us all a taste of what can be expected to be in trend in the spring and summer months of 2018, so just what do top designer brands like Stone Island, Kenzo, Off White and Ralph Lauren have in store for the guys this year? Here’s a rundown of some of the main themes and trends that were present at the recent European shows.
It’s Back to the Eighties!
Yes, every man's fashion icon for next season will probably be His dad, circa 1984 that is! From light hues to big tailored jackets, as well as pale wash blue jeans with scruffy hems, and maybe even a crease ironed in the jeans too! The eighties are going to be cool again in spring / summer 2018.
A Touch of Safari Style
Conceivably, it was the recent demise of Roger Moore that has generated this influence, but safari style jackets and 1970's influenced military shirts were present in many of the fashion shows this year. The khaki and beige shades that are usually associated with safaris style clothing is very much evident in the current Stone Island range.
Mixing Up the Patterns
There was a whole lot of pattern mixing going on in the European shows, though it was marginally more toned down in some of the later shows. It's still safe to say, though, that in the coming early spring through to the summer, we are very likely to be bringing quite a bit of graphic texture to all our outfits.
One of the ways to achieve that Eighties look is to try one of the most popular looks we had at the shows this season, which was to dress yourself all in white, from head-to-toe. If you feel that this might be a just a little bit too striking, look at swapping out your top white layer for a light blue jacket to create a bit of contrast.
Lots of Graphics
First, we had the rise of the graphic T-shirts, and now it seems like graphics will probably be entering the remainder of our wardrobes too. From coats to knitted garments, and even trousers, bold and interesting graphics were on display in numerous collections this year on many different types of garments. One of the designer brands that feature graphics heavily in their collection is Kenzo.
Trouser Hems are Getting Longer
Trousers might possibly be getting much looser and longer in the coming months. From tailor-made trousers to track bottoms and denims, all the hems were much longer than in previous seasons and the trousers were piling up at the bottoms.
Black Is Going to Be a Feature
Black is back in style, especially for this coming summer time. While some brands always have black in their collections, this season black was much in evidence in many of the collections shown on the runways.
Pink is Still with us Too
That cosy, blush colouring is about to grow a bit bolder next season and it is moving on into other shades. Even though there were bursts of bright, dazzling pink at a number of the European shows, the most used hues were in the mid-pink to pastel end of the range, but pink is definitely going to be another feature of the fashionable wardrobe in the spring and summer of 2018.
