Many of you must be familiar with different self-defense knives. These are modern types of knives used mainly for protecting yourself against the criminal attacks. Typically you would have a pocket knife for self-defense, karambits are becoming popular as self-defense and fighting knives. These are in fact multi-use knives having a remarkable design. An ergonomic handle, hooked and curved blade, and a safety ring is installed in these unique knives. However, the question is whether they are as effective self-defense knives as the pocket knives. The answer is yes, and its evidence is as follows.

What makes Karambits good fighting or self-defense knives?

Easy to draw

Just like a normal fixed blade knife, the fixed blade karambits can be deployed quickly and easily. Also, with some practice, it becomes pretty easy to draw even the folding blade karambits. In case you have a folding type, select the one that can be self-deployed using a small hook on the blade’s spine which catches your pocket inside part for snapping the blade into position upon drawing it.

Concealable weapon

Most of the karambits available in the market are concealable, specifically the models with miniature sheath and the folding types. In addition, the models that are worn around your neck are often concealable. These blades can bring an element of amazement due to their unconventional placement and smaller size.

A sheath is not necessary

One of the most surprising feature of these self-defense knives that make them excellent for self-defense is that there is no need for sheath, particularly for the folding type karambits. These types of karambits can be carried comfortably in your pockets without the need of a sheath. The other fixed blade knives may damage your pocket, bag, or pant, but you absolutely safe from such damages when you have fixed blade karambits in your pocket.

The most unique features

There is a safety ring incorporated in these knives which provides a unique benefit of doubling like the brass knuckles. It can work as a blunt impact weapon for a strong distraction and setup with a slash or cut to follow. In case of reverse grip, when you get one of your finger inside the safety ring, you can flip it to slap the opponent with the blade. At the same time, you can still utilize your other fingers and thumb for gripping him. This is where karambits surpass other knives as the self-defense and fighting tools.

Excellent retention

You can also use karambit as your backup weapon and the safety ring as the major. It is outstandingly hard for your opponent to take the ring away from you or make it drop from your finger. For this reason, numerous users opt to use karambits as backup weapon, and increase the effectiveness of these self-defense knives..

Limb Laceration

The karambits can be extremely useful as a grappling tool in the hands of a skilled or expert user. Its blade can be used to trap the attacker’s arm. Then, with a gentle twist of your wrist, you can inflict a severe damage to the arteries, nerves, and tendons of the attacker. Still, a seasoned user can deploy and use his tool in a grappling situation.

The Unpredictability element

The karambits have different moves as compared to normal stabbing activities with other knives. Your opponent would always find it difficult to figure out your moves with the knife. It would be harder for him to read and counter these moves. With these knives, stabbing, slashing, poking, flailing, and punching actions are possible.

Given such advantages of these self-defense knives, karambits can be extremely efficient as the fighting weapons.
