10 Fun Activities for Kids

Any parent out there knows how difficult it is to keep a child entertained, especially when the child has nothing to do. Most children have a nasty habit of causing a big ruckus in case they are in need of a little bit of stimulation. We don't think we need to describe the chaos which ensues after this. It is important to keep kids engaged with something on their hands at all times as they will start to learn a few things along the way. This is in addition to keeping them busy, as there is no saying what a bored child will resort to. For your ease, we have gathered a list of activities you can do with your children to make the most of their time and also allow them to understand the world around them.

Easter Egg Hunt

If you plan on having your kid's outdoors for an extended amount of time, then an Easter egg hunt is your best option. Easter egg hunts are an excellent way for your kids to understand their surroundings and is a great physical activity. To prepare an Easter egg hunt, all you have to do is get some plastic egg shell cases and fill them with prizes such as treats and goodies. Alternatively, you can also add hints and clues inside these eggs to make for a deeper, more interesting hunt. You can even place eggs having valuable prizes to add a little bit of mystery to the activity.

Water Balloon Fight

These fights are a great activity for kids, particularly in the summertime. A water balloon fight is a great way for kids to cool off in the heat and is also a much safer activity than a pool party. You can combine water balloons with sprinklers and water guns for added entertainment, and can even design a play area which is supposed to be captured to win the fight. This game is great if played with a lot of friends, especially when an unlimited supply of water, like a garden hose, is nearby. A good addition is the incorporation of a slip and slide for an additional fun factor.

Cooking Snacks

In case the outdoors are a little unwelcoming, you can also have kids huddled around the kitchen, learning how to cook their favorite snacks. Although, we will strongly advise against having kids near open flames, it is a better option to have kids bake or microwave their snacks instead. The best snacks to be cooking are puff pastries, pizzas and cakes as they are loved by kids all over. They are also a good way for kids to understand the ingredients that go into their favorite snacks and is an excellent way to teach your kids how to cook.

National Park Tour

If you have a national park near your home, then you're in luck. National parks around the country offer tours and adventures into the outdoors as a way for kids to learn about their geography and environment. It is possible to come across a wide variety of flora and fauna along the trip whose significance can be taught to children. Although. this activity requires you to walk for extended periods, some parks have buggies that can be rented to make getting around easier. These tours teach children the importance of protecting nature and the beauty that would be lost in its absence..

Arts and Crafts

A good indoor activity is teaching your kids how to make simple and complex art pieces using simple stationery materials. You can allow your child to explore their creativity and make objects that are commonly found in nature. A simple project involves looking at pictures of flowers and using paper cuttings and glue to assemble them. Another good project involves using wooden Popsicle sticks to make a house, car or any object your kids want. This is a great exercise to bond with your children, and it allows them to develop their artistic abilities.

DIY jam session

If you're looking to help your kids explore their musical side, then a DIY music session is exactly what is needed. This activity involves using random items available around the house to generate musical sounds. Now, this activity can get really noisy really quickly, so it is best to carry it out in a basement or garage during the day. This activity can be combined with singing or beatboxing for an added effect, with the best music created being judged for a prize.

Gardening

Another activity which is fun and allows your kids to gain respect for your surroundings is gardening. By letting your kids understand how the soil, fertilizer, water and seeds work with each other, it is possible to develop a rich gardening habit which is fun and beneficial. Gardening is also quite easy to set up, all you need to do is get some flower pots of various sizes, some soil, seeds, and your pretty much set. You can start by teaching your kids how to layer the soil they're using and how much do they need to water these pots. This is a long term activity, and your kids will be bubbling to see the first sprouts pop for the rest of the day.

Visiting the Museum

If the weather is relay not cooperating, the museum is also a great place to take kids for outdoor activity. Museums are an excellent place for kids to learn about history, and understand its significance in the world around them in general. Try to take your kids to museums that have interactive exhibits, such as moving animations and audio-assisted displays. Most museums also have reenactments of historical events that are fun for kids to watch. Although, this depends on your kid's preference for museums, it is still an excellent place to visit every once in a while.

Visit the Aquarium

Another outdoor activity is taking your kids to see the aquarium. Most kids around the world grow up visiting the zoo, making a trip to see their aquatic counterparts all the more enjoyable. Most aquariums across the globe contain smaller tanks featuring certain species of fish. However, the ones that really need to be visited are the ones featuring large tanks with a variety of different sea life. Some aquariums also have dolphin and seal shows which are enjoyable for kids of all ages. There might even be a meet and greet session with these dolphins and their trainers, making it a perfect opportunity for kids to get up close to these majestic creatures.

Outdoor picnic

Arguably the simplest activity that can be done outdoors, a humble picnic is often times the best outdoor activity. A picnic is a great activity as it is the perfect bonding time for your family. You can combine any of the activities listed above and incorporate them into your trip. The best kind of picnics that kids enjoy the most are seaside or lakeside picnics, with ample access to treats such as S'mores and corn on the cobs. If the grounds allow it, you can also extend this picnic to incorporate an overnight stay, but do check with the authorities to avoid any issues.

Deduction board games

There are quite a lot of board games available on the market for kids which are designed to test their thinking skills. Most of these games involve solving crime and catching suspected criminals. Not only do these games improve mental abilities, but also serves as a reminder for kids to understand and obey the law.
