Back to School Blues

This time of year, my girlfriends always regale me with horror stories of trying to get their kids to school on time while signing permission slips, packing lunches, finding lost shoes and fighting tangles. They sigh exasperatedly and say, " I swear, they look homeless half the time!" While I can't do much about the lost shoes, I would love to help fight hair craziness.

The first line of defense for long hair is braiding it before bed. this keeps it neat and tangle-free all night. Plus, it adds a wavy texture to the hair for next day's style. Total bonus! Mist hair with Kevin Murphy's UN.TANGLED. and Resort Spray. Braid and fasten with a ponytail holder.

If braiding hair the night before doesn't happen, (Moms, we know these days usually involve an extra glass of wine and some Motrin.) mist hair in the morning with UN.TANGLED. Using a Tangle Teaser, start at the bottom of the hair and work your way up. Be sure to hold the hair above any severe tangles while gently combing out the hair below the tangle to prevent pulling. (And yelling. Who are we kidding?)

Hair Hacks

Now that the beast is tamed, let's talk simple, cute styles to get your kids out the door.

Place multiple hair clips along one side of the head. Gather hair and braid or fasten in a ponytail.

Hair Bow Bun

This is a twist on the high bun. Gather hair in a high ponytail and pull half way through so you have a puffy bun. Split the bun in half and twist one half toward you and the other half away from you. Secure with a couple bobby pins. Add a tiny hair bow for added charm.

Ballerina Bun

This is the ultimate in easy hair and can be done on wet or dry hair. Gather hair in a high ponytail. Twist and wrap hair in a bun and secure with bobby pins.

Side Ponytail

Dress this classic up by adding a decorative headband.

K.I.S.S. ( Keep It Simple Silly)

Slide a big hair bow into either side of the hair to hold it back. #micdrop.

Put your new skills to use and be a school day diva!
