9 Reasons Why You Should Clean Your Closets Out Regularly

Cleaning out your closet can seem like a tedious chore, and that's because it is. But lucky for you, there are plenty of great reasons to clean your closets, like bettering your mental health.

A clean closet means you have one less problem to worry about. Plus, you don't need the first thing to greet you in the morning to be a dirty closet.

Once you think about all the benefits of cleaning out your closet, you'll be motivated and ready to clean like there's no tomorrow.

So read this guide and commit these nine tips to memory, then clean like the wind!

1. Clean Your Closets For More Space

The most obvious reason why you should clean out your closets is to have more space in your room. When you start cleaning your closet, you'll notice that there's a lot of useless junk in it.

Old shoeboxes, receipts, and broken things you have no use for are all lurking in your closet right now. So, get rid of them and fill your closet with fun new things that you can actually wear.

And, you'll have space to store all the important things you need like pillows or blankets.

2. Save Time In The Morning

If you're in a rush to get to work in the morning and you need to get your clothes, having a dirty closet is not going to help your situation.

Sifting through old garbage to put together a decent work outfit should not have to be part of anybody's morning routine. One of the benefits of cleaning your closets is being able to get whatever you need quickly.

You also run the risk of not being able to wear the outfits you want because they've been sitting next to a pile of dirty clothes and you don't know if you should wear them after that.

3. You'll Know What Needs To Be Thrown Out

Cleaning your closets gives you the opportunity to take out everything in there and review it all. And you'll find that there's a whole bunch of stuff in there that's totally useless.

There's probably a dozen outfits that don't fit anymore, trash, and things you just don't like anymore.

Whatever you find, you'll be able to sort through it yourself. Then you can decide what needs to be thrown out, what you can donate to charity, and what you're going to keep.

You'll find that there's way more stuff that you won't be keeping than not, so keep several garbage bags handy.

4. Find Hidden Gems

Another one of the advantages of cleaning your closets is finding great stuff you'd forgotten about. Maybe you had a great outfit you used to love wearing to certain events, but you don't know what happened to it.

Well, it's probably hiding somewhere buried underneath all the junk and clothes you don't wear anymore.

You might even find stuff like rings, watches, and earrings that you forgot you even had but go great with your best outfit.

Going through your closet is like perusing your own personal goodwill, only there's more stuff you like and everything is free.

5. Profit Off Old Stuff By Pawning Designer Clothes 7.5

If you're really thorough you might find something made of diamonds, silver, or gold. If you find anything made of precious metals, but you don't want, you can always head to a pawn shop.

Pawn shops pay decently for jewelry. And, you can think of it as a reward for cleaning your closet so carefully. Plus, you can use the extra money to go shopping for new clothes.

Or if it was really valuable, you can have another closet put into your house, and really reward yourself. Just make sure you keep that one clean as well.

6. You'll Really Cut Back On Ironing

Having a bunch of your clothes all smashed together is going to force you to have to iron your stuff almost every day. But you can skip that chore with regular closet cleaning.

This will work out well if you're ever late for something and don't have the time.

7. Keep Pests Out With Cleanliness

If your closet is dirty enough, you may need to concern yourself with creepy crawlies. Pests like dark, enclosed spaces where they can hide, so keeping your closet dirty is like giving them free room and board.

Termites are well suited to living in a dirty closet, and they're among the worst pests ever.

They don't pay rent, and they cost you money by damaging your house, so you need to make sure they're don't move in.

And if they do move in, you need to invest in good termite control. An out of hand pest problem is a much bigger headache than a dirty closet.

8. Get Rid Of Outfits You Hate

Your closet is home to a lot of stuff, including some outfits you probably don't care for anymore. And outfits you hate always seem to be the ones that crop up whenever you're looking for something to wear.

So, it's time to banish them from your life and get something you actually want to wear.

9. It's a Reason To Go Shopping

Once your closet is clean, you might find that you've got a lot more free space than you were expecting. Well, that's when you can fill your closets with all the new outfits that you love.

With winter now out the window, you'll want to fill that space with spring and summer jackets. Even when winter rolls around, you can take them on vacation and look fabulous.

You Own Your Stuff, It Doesn't Own You

If your closet is super dirty, it can start to feel like you'll never be able to clean it. But you definitely can. If you feel overwhelmed, you can always take a break and come back to it when you're ready.

If you really want to clean your closets, you're also going to need to throw out a bunch of stuff. That sweater you got in 11th grade might be cute, but it's time to move on to better things.
