How long does it take to scrap my car?

So how do I scrap my car?

In order to scrap your car you need to find some documents. The ATF will need your photo ID, proof of address and your V5 logbook. Sometimes you might have a private registration, if you’d like to keep that you will need to make an application to do so prior to scrapping.

Next, you should start to contact ATF’s to get a quote for your car. It’s usually a lot easier to contact one that’s close to you. Luckily, Scrap My Car are based all over the North West. From there the ATF will contact you to arrange a collection of your car, alternatively, you can drop it off at one of their collection points.

What paperwork will I need to scrap my car?

You will need a form of ID, a proof of address and your V5C logbook in order to scrap your car.

A photocard driving license is preferred but you could use your valid UK passport, a valid passport from a European state or a valid UK biometric immigration document.

Your supporting document will need to be supplied alongside your ID. Documents such as a bank or building society statement, a credit or debit card statement, a council tax letter or a utility bill.

It becomes your legal responsibility to notify the DVLA when you scrap your car. You do this by filling in section 9 of your V5C which is why it’s important that you have your logbook handy when you scrap your car.
